Accepted

So, I have MS and am applying for diability benefits via social security in about three years. I just got accepted by the SSA, and was told to expect my first payment, the big one, at the end of this month/the start of next. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or tips on what to do next.

I live in Southern California if it matters

Touch typing

Before I start, I have Primary Progressive MS, in case that matters.

So, I used to be an extremely fast typist. About a year before I was diagnosed with MS I took a typing test it was nothing official or anything, but it was free and I was curious. I remember the test saying my WPM was 74, mainly because I was psyched that it was over a word per second, even though I was self taught and never learned proper touch typing. When I type my hands would essentially hover over the keyboard and I would constantly look between the screen and keyboard to keep my hands positioned correctly, as I wrote from muscle memory and just feeling where my hands were.

Flash forward to about a year after my diagnoses, my typing speed tanked, HARD, and went from over 70 WPM to about 20, and i started to make far more mistakes in typing as well. I didn't have any idea of why, other than a general notion that finessed motions seem more difficult, and i often find my hands moving incorrectly, and not in the way I want them to. It is a thing that I can easily force myaelf to right, but it takes a second to make my fingers move correctly. So i figured that i was probably hitting that issue without realizing it as I typed, and fixing it unconsciously, at the cost of typing speed, then causing errors from the fact that I was not 100% successful in doing so.

I tried to force myself to type faster, and I failed, miserably. My attempts to recreate my old typing style and speed have somehow made me type even more slowly, or done nothing while my condition continued to degenerate.

Simultaneously, I started to suffer eye pain, that seems to worsen when I focus on things. I have seen about a half dozen eye doctors, and came to the conclusion that my eye pain is likely caused by a combination of two things. My Meibomian glands are clogged to the point that they essentially don't secrete any oil, and my eyes dry off very quickly. And I likely have nerve damage in my eyes.

I looked up the symptoms and am taking a dozen simple, over the counter and alternate medicine approaches to the glandular issue, combined with what is essentially a shrug for the nerve damage one.

Meanwhile, I did a bit of research and found that the eye pain caused by nerve damage is worsened by focusing and moving the eyes, while the glandular issue is worsened by keeping them open.

As previously mentioned, my typing technique relied heavily on both, and needed constant, rapid, shifts in eye focus to function. So, i feel like it's high time that I try to learn touch typing. I'm 35. So I'm not a kid, but I'm not exactly elderly either. But I am having trouble with the matter of training and learning, having found nothing but a general advice of "use the home keys."

So, I have two questions.

  1. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice for learning proper touch typing? Note that I have essentially zero income, and cannot reasonably take a class unless it is EXTREMELY cheap. Like, I can borrow $10 from a friend to pay for it levels of cheap.

  2. Just a general request for ideas, does anyone have any thoughts on what may help. Just to avoid redundancy I do thr following already.

I take multivitamins, then extra vitamin D and E on top of them.

I take omega 3, fish oil, and flax seed oil daily.

I use a hiot compress four times a day on my eyes and try tk massage my eyelids to unclog miebary glands immediately after.

I take restasis eyedrops morning and night, and artificial tears throughout the day.

Finding a game

So, I like PF2E, Hell, I like DND and VTM too.

But I have had one problem looking for a game on the PF2E Discord. It seems like every game I can find is either 99% combat, to the exclusion of RP, or exactly the inverse of that. I generally like a solid combination of the two. My favorite moments are generally where the two collide.

Are others having the same issue, or is it just me? Also, does anyone have a balanced game that is looking for a player?

Hey everyone. I have MS, and a very particular eye problem,

I think it may be caused by my MS, but I honestly don't know, I've seen a neurologist, an opthomologist, and even a neuroopthomolotist about it, none of them could figure out what exactly was wrong. So I figured I would just ask everyone here and see if anybody knew.

My eyes feel dry, constantly. Like, i have dry eyes in the normal sense too, but this is different. They feel like I've been staring at something without blinking for a long time, almost instantly upon opening my eyes, blinking doesn't seem to help. Closing my eyes for five or six seconds helps in the short term, but I feel like I have to again after about fifteen seconds. It's gotten bad enough that I have difficulty typing, writing, or driving for long. Even watching TV ia difficult. This short piece of writing has taken me twenty eight minutes to put down, because I keep having to close my eyes.

The pain isn't terribly bad, but it is constant and oppressive. So, if anybody has any thoughts or ideas as to what it is or what may help, I am all ears.

I put it on an answer to a reply, but I think it might help to go over what I've done here.

I do warm compresses 2-4 times a day, take cod liver oil, and multivitamins. I do eye scrubs, I'll admit inconsistently, but about three tines a week. So far I have noticed little difference from this.
