I purchased some ferry tickets from a kiosk which printed out a paper ticket with a large QR code on the bottom. Upon boarding the ferry, a crew member scans the code to validate your ticket.

When I use my cellphone's QR code wallet application, it shows a re-rendered version of the QR code that is clearly different than the tickets. The crew member was unable to scan or validate my ticket using the re-rendered version stored in my QR wallet.

Some of the printed ticket info seems to be present in the QR

Is this a common security feature, or does it indicate an issue with my application?

The best e-ink map application I have found (CalmMaps) does not support NYC public transit, which is a terrible shame. It's the best interface I have found. What do you use to navigate public transportation on e-ink?
