Where, when and by whom were the runes and futharkic writing systems used in history?

I have taught myself how to read and write the symbols of the elder futhark out of pure boredom and curiosity. I can plainly see that this method of capturing ideas once held great meaning and cultural significance. I am seeking to understand in which cultures and spoken languages these runes where used.

I need help finding a contemporary artist to study for my art class.

I need to find a contemporary artist to research for an art class project. The instruction is to work with the fragmentation art style and my chosen theme is to portray witches and shamans. I generally prefer a darker art style such as the work of Goya. Does anyone know of any contemporary artists whom I might use in my research?
