Identification help requested — established Encephalartos sp. in Escondido, California

Identification help requested for an established landscape cycad at a private Escondido property being evaluated for possible professional relocation. Current defensible label is Encephalartos sp.; exact species is not established and no provenance claim is made.

The plant appears approximately 5–7 ft overall with a single exposed caudex. The available close-ups show long stiff leaves, narrow regularly spaced leaflets, numerous short prickles in the lower rachis/petiole region, and persistent papery/woolly crown bases. No cone is visible.

Could experienced growers comment on the most likely species or affinity and, especially, which missing characters would be decisive? Please do not treat E. natalensis or E. lebomboensis as established suggestions; those were only preliminary possibilities.

Alive and well !

San Diego Palm Protection is alive and well. I wanted to start this after my own cidp rapidly deteriorated from palm weevil. Now ive helped several people treat their own here in Old Escondido , my own neighborhood, and push education about this inimical beast of a weevil :)

No Reply. Then the Saws | A Canary Island Date Palm Disappears

On July 10, 2026, I documented severe central-crown decline in a mature Canary Island date palm at Las Palmas Apartments in Old Escondido, CA.

Updated photographs were sent to the property contact on July 11. No response came back before the palm was found removed on July 13.

I believe South American palm weevil was involved based on the observed pattern of decline. No laboratory or public diagnosis has been released, and the reason for removal is unknown.

sapw on my cidp

San diego. Yeah... I know. South American palm weevils found on my canary island date palm. Was suspect for a few months because of canopy shape and treated then. Luckily been stable but started catching these the other night after I treated again recently. All caught within 24hr... my hope is in the systemic internal treatment against larvae. #San #Diego #Palm #Protection

Planche leans on the parallel bar

Used to really only tuck planche till failure once or twice a week, but now doing submaximal volume every other day. Incorporating leans when sore

I've found the cobra to be one of my favorite stretches after sitting a good amount of the day. Try leaning side to side in this position to really work it. This stretch has helped improve my lower back for bridge work in addition to the sternum fly's as i call them. If youre looking for improved shoulder mobility and an expanded chest for the bridge, this is your move. Shoulders have been a limiting factor in achieving a more vertical bridge, and I cant think of another way to improve this
