Frog!

Oh, I am so excited I was just out and the fountain was wonky and I went to adjust it and a little frog jumped! There is a frog in my pond! What do I need to make sure it’s in there for this frog. he was about an inch long and I didn’t get a very good look at him. Here is my current set up. That container is one of those plastic half barrel planters. I have 4 comet fish in there.

Bare root to bloom in about a month

This is a Jackson Perkins Outrageous. The color in person is not exactly what you see in the catalog. But I am very pleased with the color.

The Daily Dirt is USELESS

Come on HayDay. You hear us all complain about the DAILY DIRT. You know it’s a problem and there has to be a way that you can fix it. Do something about it. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

Noooo, Doris!!

Big rain and winds here came out of nowhere, knocked over Doris Day and broke the pot she was in! Not funny.

Did anyone notice that the baby alpacas have a little orange frog?

My first mini pond, kind of love it!

This is made out of one of those half barrel looking planters that are made of plastic. There are four little fish in there. I can’t remember what they’re called, little orange fish. Cosmos maybe. I think they cost $.23 each. Anyway they’re doing fine. They are for eating the mosquito larvae. I was waiting for the statues to arrive before I could take a picture of the completed project. I thought it was the perfect place to display my collection of heart shaped rocks. The light green plants on either side are oregano that I dug up from my herb garden and transplanted. Originally there were lobelia all the way around in front of it. But I kept stepping on it because I needed to get in there and arrange things and get to the solar panel for the fountain that is above on the railing for the deck. I think the whole thing turned out super cute.

What else can I do to make these blue?

I have been using. this soil acidifier for the last at least three years maybe longer and my hydrangea it’s just as pink as it can be. What else can I possibly try? What am I doing wrong? If it matters, I am in Southwest Michigan, zone 6A.

Oklahoma

Check out this Oklahoma that I got this year. I am shocked at how dark red this rose is plus she’s heavily scented. It is very hard to capture the dark red and the shades of black on this rose. In fact I was looking to find the darkest red rose for my wish list for next year, guess I can make room for something else because Oklahoma did the trick!

New to bare root roses

I planted this about a week or so ago. This is all new growth. It’s sort of coming out from underneath. Is this ok? In case anyone cares, it’s J&P Outrageous.

Long canes on blackberries and raspberries

I put these in a few years ago. And they’re covered with berries that are just starting to get some color but here’s my question. See these very long canes that don’t have any fruit on them? What are these? are these canes that will bare fruit next year? Should I cut them back? I’m in zone 6A in case that matters. Blackberries in the comments.

Here’s our forecast for the next little while. Little chilly still. the tomato plants and cucumber plants in my greenhouse are ready to be out of their pots. Would you wait till it warms up some more or is this fine. Normally we wait till around mid May here in Southwest Michigan.
