Looking for some new games to play on my home-built Steam machine! 🎮

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for some recommendations for new games to play on my home-built Steam machine. I recently picked up Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, but unfortunately I can't seem to get it working because of the anti-cheat issue. 😭

So now I'm looking for something else to sink my time into!

What games are you guys playing right now that you'd recommend? I'm open to pretty much anything—indies, AAA, single-player, multiplayer, RPGs, fighting games, whatever.

I need some good recommendations!!! 🙏

For those who built their own “Steam Machines” — what are you playing?

For those of you who built your own Steam Machine/SteamOS-style PC, what games are you currently playing, and what settings are you running?

I’m curious about real-world performance on living-room PC builds, especially things like:

  • Game + resolution
  • FPS / refresh rate
  • Graphics settings
  • Upscaling (FSR, XeSS, DLSS, etc.)
  • Any tweaks you’ve found useful

Would love to see what everyone is actually running rather than just benchmark numbers. Bonus points for older AAA games, newer demanding titles, and couch-friendly setups.

For those using SteamOS on a custom PC connected to a TV – what adapter are you using for 4K 144Hz?

I'm looking for advice from anyone who's built their own SteamOS gaming PC and uses it on a 4K 144Hz TV.

What HDMI or DisplayPort adapter/cable are you using to get a stable 4K 144Hz signal? I'd appreciate recommendations that you've personally tested and know work well with SteamOS.

Please let me know what you're using so I can pick one up. Thanks!

ryzen 9 7950x3d matx motherboard

Hey,

I'm looking at getting a MATX motherboard for my ryzen 9 7950x3d any recommendations?

I'm looking for some advice from people who have built Steam Machine alternates.

I currently have the following hardware that I'd like to reuse to build a alternate Steam Machine:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D
  • RTX 4090 (I'll confirm exact model if it matters)
  • 64GB DDR5-5600 (2x32GB)

I'm looking to move everything into an ITX or mATX build that's as small as reasonably possible while still allowing proper cooling to run as a steam machine. I'm not trying to win a smallest-build contest if it means the CPU or GPU will constantly thermal throttle.

I'm mainly looking for recommendations on:

  • ITX motherboard (AM5) or mATX motherboard (B650/B850)
  • Case
  • Power supply
  • CPU cooler (air vs AIO)

Priorities are:

  1. Reliable cooling
  2. Small footprint
  3. Low noise if possible

I know the RTX 4090 is probably going to be the biggest limiting factor, so I'm okay with a slightly larger ITX or mATX cases if it makes a significant difference in temperatures and noise.

Some questions:

  • Is a 240mm AIO enough for a 7950X3D, or should I be looking at a 280mm?
  • Are there any ITX or mATX motherboards that are generally considered the best for this kind of build?
  • Is an SFX-L PSU worth it over a standard SFX for a 4090?
  • Which cases have the best balance of size and cooling for a 4090?

I'd also love to see examples if anyone is running a similar 7950X3D + 4090 setup.

Thanks!

I'm looking for some advice from people who have built high-end SFF systems.

Is Revature worth it? New CS grad with TS/SCI CI Poly but no experience

Hey everyone,

I recently graduated with my BS in Computer Science and have been looking for my first job. I currently have a TS/SCI with a CI poly, but I don't have any professional experience, and that's been making the job search pretty discouraging.

To be honest, I don't feel like I came out of college with as strong of a skillset as I hoped. I was working while going to school, so it took me longer than most to graduate, and I feel like I was just trying to survive each semester instead of really mastering everything.

I've been looking into Revature as a way to get my foot in the door, but I've seen a lot of mixed opinions. Is it actually worth it if you're struggling to land that first job, or would I be better off continuing to apply elsewhere and work on personal projects/certifications?

Also, will taking longer to graduate be a red flag for employers, or is that something I'm worrying about more than I should be?

I'd really appreciate any advice from people who have been in a similar situation, especially anyone who had a clearance but little or no experience. Thanks!

Looking for Custom PC Builder around Pyeongtaek area

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for an experienced PC builder in the Pyeongtaek area (or anywhere reasonably close in South Korea) who specializes in custom water-cooled systems.

I already own the following components:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D
  • 64GB DDR5 RAM
  • NVIDIA RTX 4090
  • Planning to add a second RTX 4090

What I'm looking for:

  • Recommendations on the remaining components needed
  • Full parts sourcing and assembly
  • Custom hardline or softline water loop
  • Cooling for CPU and both GPUs
  • Clean cable management
  • System stress testing and validation
  • Experience with high-end workstation/AI/rendering builds

The primary use case will be AI workloads, machine learning, virtualization, content creation, and gaming.

I'm not looking for a standard gaming PC build—I want a professionally built, reliable, showcase-quality custom loop with room for future upgrades.

Please comment or send me a message with:

  • Your experience with custom water cooling
  • Photos of previous builds
  • Estimated labor cost
  • Timeline for completion

I can travel within the surrounding area if needed.

Thanks!

Recent CS graduate with active TS/SCI — trying to break into the field, looking for advice

Hey everyone,

I recently graduated with a BS in Computer Science and currently hold an active TS/SCI. Right now I’m working overseas in South Korea, but I’m trying to figure out the best path to actually break into the industry once I transition back.

My biggest issue is that while I have the degree and clearance, I feel like I’m lacking practical experience compared to other candidates. I’ve been looking into building homelabs and personal projects to strengthen my skills and resume, especially in areas like cybersecurity, networking, cloud, Linux, scripting, and systems administration.

I’d really appreciate advice from people already in the cleared space or tech industry:

  • What kinds of homelab projects actually helped you get interviews or jobs?
  • What skills are most valuable right now for cleared positions?
  • Are certifications worth prioritizing, and if so which ones?
  • What would you focus on first if you were starting from scratch with a CS degree + clearance?
  • Any recommendations for projects that demonstrate real-world ability instead of just tutorial copying?

I’m open to software engineering, cybersecurity, cloud, DevOps, infrastructure, or anything adjacent. I’m mainly trying to build experience and become competitive before I start applying seriously.

Thanks in advance — I’d appreciate any guidance.

Hey everyone,

I just got to Camp Humphreys as a contractor and I’m trying to figure out the whole driving situation here.

Before coming out, I completed my international driver’s license online, but it’s still being mailed to me, so I don’t physically have it yet. From what I understand, I can’t get the USFK “orange license” until that arrives.

In the meantime, I’m kind of stuck without transportation. Does anyone know if there’s any way to rent a car without the international license in hand? Are there any temporary options, workarounds, or places that are more flexible with this?

I’ve heard mixed things about using a stateside license alone or possibly getting a short-term solution, but nothing concrete.

Any advice or recent experiences would be really appreciated. Just trying to get mobile while I wait for the paperwork to catch up.

Thanks in advance!
