Japan eSIM experience: Stellar Security

So I used an eSIM for the first time on my current Japan trip, before that I have used pocket WIFIs only. Specifically, I bought 50 GB of data provided by docomo, IIJ and other networks up to 5g for 30 days of usage. It also included 35 days of free VPN service which helped me access some sites that were blocked in Japan. In total, it was around 11€.

All in all, speeds are pretty good, there were no outages or hidden fees and I could connect to the internet like 15-20 mins after leaving my plane. Comparing that to the pocket WiFi experience, where you have to visit the counter first, always carry it with you, keep it charged, and return it at the end of the trip, this was a much simpler process and i would definitely recommend it, at least if you’re not planning to stream movies or watch YouTube all day, since that would use up more than 50 GB quickly.
