Is it worth it..

All I hear about is the failure rate, or the fake gurus. Is anyone with a 50k bank roll really making life changing money every year or are we all just trying to turn $500 into three million, 50k into 3k a month profit some months or just delaying the inevitable.

Looking for advice from consistently profitable discretionary day traders

Over the past six months, I've been building and refining my own TradingView Pine Script strategy. I'm actually pretty happy with my entries, but I'm still not consistently profitable.

The biggest issue isn't necessarily the entries—it's what happens after I'm in the trade.

When I backtest, the strategy isn't especially consistent. Depending on the time period, the win rate moves around quite a bit, but it's generally in the 39% range. Sometimes it performs much better over certain periods, then worse over others, so it's been difficult to build confidence that I truly have an edge.

That uncertainty causes me to constantly interfere with my trades. I'll move my stop too early, take profits too quickly, or otherwise manage the position because I don't fully trust the system.

So I have two questions for traders who have been consistently profitable for years:

  1. Once you enter a trade, do you place your target and stop and then leave the trade completely alone until one of them is hit? Or do you actively adjust stops, scale out, or otherwise manage the trade while it's open? If you do manage it, what rules determine those adjustments?
  2. I primarily trade Micron (MU), which has a relatively high ATR and can move very quickly. Do you think that kind of volatility makes it harder to execute consistently? Would you recommend learning on a stock with a smaller ATR, or is the volatility not really the issue?

I'm trying to determine whether my problem is:

  • a strategy that isn't robust enough,
  • poor trade management,
  • lack of confidence in my edge,
  • or simply trading a stock that's too volatile for my current skill level.

I'd really appreciate hearing how experienced traders think about these issues.

Note: I used ChatGPT to help organize and phrase this question, but the trading experience, strategy, and questions are my own.

What was the Obstinate Daughter called before it was TOD?

For the life of me I cannot remember. When I was in college four roommates and I lived on SI. This restaurant used to be super cozy and had Thai Tuesday. The most important part of this is the fact that they used to make the best oysters Rockefeller on the planet and I’m trying to find a recipe ( so if anyone knows) close to that one. Thanks in advance.
