Fear Fest is finally here!

What is Fear Fest?

Fear Fest is a community celebration conceptualized and organized by Bard & Raven and hosted by Heart of Daggers to celebrate the communities’ shared love for Halloween and Daggerheart. Many designers, artists, and writers were uplifted along the way, earning their first credit in an official publication.

Throughout the month of October, there will be over 20 new spooky supplements, 15+ interviews with 3rd-party creators, and 3 scary Actual Plays The main event (a.k.a. Heart of Daggers Fear Fest Sale) kicks off October 17, but leading up to this, there’s already lots to check out!

We’re starting today, October 1st, 8pm CEST | 2pm EDT | 11am PDT with the first creator interview featuring iiyama, Strachan and not_a_hag and their gorgeous cyberpunk adventure Dread Ravers.

Our illustration last week showed a badass black phoenix with a burning heart by Reparatus Art.
Let's have a look at the additions for last week's challenge:

First, u/NeuroBordeaux delighted us with a new Sorcerer subclass, the Phoenix Origin. Use your own HP to fuel your magic and rise from the ashes upon your demise.

u/chetradley brought us a fun little item, the Heart of Nature. Bring back a defeated creature and let it fight for you.

Over on Discord, u/Just-Truth-5823 came up with the Bomb-A-Hawk - a dangerous Tier 4 Minion that will bring some explosions into your adventure!

ShadeGumibreon designed the Detritus Peacock, a Tier 2 Boss encounter that hides in the form of a Standard. Beware of its poison!

CXZman went all out and created a whole Colossus - meet Hozrar, the Ashborne Nightmare. Check it out and bring it to your table - this one fits any campaign, not just Pistolheart of CotDL settings.

Lastly: I nearly missed my own challenge but I was finally able to finish my own Colossus in time (a huge THANKS to CXZman for the help!).
Check out Pyrexia, the Shackled Ember - a dark and corrupted Phoenix with the true one being imprisoned in a realm of torment. Will you be able to find a way inside the realm and free the poor soul? (by me)

Last weeks round-up

Our illustration last week showed a High Priestess Tarot Card which inspired the very first Homebrew Collaboration in Bard & Raven (which I am one part of) history.
But before we have a look what this collab is about, let's see the other creation from last week:

Over on the Heart of Daggers Discord, u/Just-Truth-5823 once again showed us why he is the master of (sub)classes in the Daggerheart homebrew scene. This week, he gifted us with the Fortunate Teller class. A completely new and immensely flavorful class using the Arcana and Grace domains who is going all in predicting the future. It comes with the Cartomancer and Chirologist subclasses which add to the whole fantasy a great deal. CHECK THEM OUT!

But now, lets see the community collab:
Duality’s Hand (Card Deck), a legendary Artifact which the players can draw a card from once per scene. Will they be lucky to draw a card upright (usually a good effect) or will they see it reversed and suffer the consequences?
I am so darn proud of everyone who joined the design streams last week and collaborated in creating this Tarot inspired item for Daggerheart. So I cannot take the sole credit for this creation. Thank you to all my collaborators:

Last weeks round-up

Our illustration last week showed an exceedingly cute bird-cat.
Apparently, a lot of folks felt inspired by it since we had the highest amount of submissions of any week! Let's have a look at all the amazing creations:

Let’s begin with u/bolt6 who brought us the Beast Nest, a Tier 1 Exploration environment about an animal's nest that houses some unhatched eggs. Will you be able to loot it without incurring the mothers wrath?

Not necessarily a submission but noteworthy nonetheless - a certain u/Blikimor declared the bird-cat in the artwork to be “her best boy” now - just to let you all know, they are taken!

u/AeroSmyte gave us a Tier 2 Ranged adversary, the Blue Pyriffon.

Next up, u/beardyramen created an extensive Tier 2 Event environment that tells a whole story about the beautiful and mysterious Catatoos, the Catatoo Encounter. 

u/dark_dar came in clutch and brought us at the last possible minute of the week a literal family of adversaries. Meet the Paruntheras, consisting of the Matriarch, Protector and their youngins.

u/Just-Truth-5823 went back to their specialty and designed the cutest thing in Daggerheart's history: the Adorbmancy subclass for the Summoner (a new Void class). My heart will never recover from the amount of “aaww” I experienced while reading this. Go out and summon your own fluffball of cuteness!

Over on the Heart of Daggers Discord, we had a couple more additions that are also worth checking out!
- Alan Mehanna created the forest guardian Mazharel the Gryphon, a Tier 2 Social adversary.
- ShadeGumibreon created a new ancestry, the House Griffon. Enjoy your wings and your feline grace!
- Jeff/MrLoconeko joined this week as well and brought us the delightful Cobalt Whiskerwing NPC. There is a clear path to success with these beauties: Tame, Befriend, Train -> Success!

Lastly, meet the Flock of Cerulean Perrhoots, a Tier 2 Horde that is sure to be too cute to actually fight. But since you cannot fight these fluffballs, why not summon them to your side to help out? Take the Purring Piccolo flute for thís endeavour! (by me)

u/Aaelius_ provided us with a fizzy consumable that will provide you with on demand illusion magic!

u/Luciel03 created another interesting new concept for a consumable, the Scroll of Aura. Which trait will you choose to read from this scroll?

Next in line, u/AdventureLH brought us not only the Tide Hag adversary or the Hag Lair environment. No, they even designed a whole cast of minions and support adversaries for the hag to control. This is its own adventure and I am feeling very inspired to play it in the near future!

Lastly, meet the dynamic NPC duo Hazel and Mist. Besides their backstory, they come with their own Hopes and Fear, multiple Features and quest hooks. They are perfect to immediately get picked up by an adventuring party and accompanied to slay some hags! (by me)

Lets begin with u/bolt6 who saw divinity in this honeypot wearing bear and created the Ursus Ambrosius, a nectar loving Bruiser with divine powers.

Next on the list, u/Just-Truth-5823 who gave us two interconnected adversaries, the Honeypot Minion who likes to possess others to create something like the Honeypotted Bear.

This week, u/NeuroBordeaux brought us an Oversized Honey Dipper weapon - be careful, for it is EXTREMELY sticky!

u/Luciel03 created a re-usable Consumable with lots of roleplay potential. Evoke the right aspect and profit from the Golden Jelly!

Next, u/Aelius_ designed the Sticky Honeydipper tool with which you can stick anything you can imagine to it - even your hands. 

Lastly, meet the Bearkin Sweettooth, a Tier 2 Support who loves to spread his honey, as well as his headwear, the Honeypot Helm, that might be worn for some extra Honey powers. (by me)

u/Luciel03 designed an amazingly flavorful artifact - the Embers of Flame. Activate it at your own risk and you will get rewarded with powerful one-time boons. What happens once you activated each of the boons?

Lastly, meet the Hound of Corruption, a Tier 3 Bruiser that will eventually cause the floor to become lava! They bear a corrupted artifact that is released upon defeat. But it does not end there - how will you handle the Defiled Aether Stone? (by me)

#TheGreatHatching is upon us!

Heart of Daggers FEAR FEST is a community led initiative to celebrate the most fun holiday of the year: Halloween!
Its not even October yet and we're already coming at you with another initiative:

Project Overhang

Not long ago, Daggerheart legends Carlos Cisco and Mike Underwood announced a Mentorship program as part of FEAR FEST: PistolHaunt Menagerie of Mentorship.

Interested creators without any prior publication credits submitted adversaries to get picked up by them for a mentorship and shared publication.

Since then, they both picked their mentees but the fun does not end here!

In Project Overhang, we, the community, will be deciding on 10 more of the submitted adversaries. It's up to us now to award more creators the chance to get published!

All chosen adversaries will be polished and packed up in a separate supplement and published on the Heart of Daggers marketplace. Every chosen adversary creator and participating producer will get a credit in the supplement and a share of the revenue. Heart of Daggers will even commission 3 artworks for Project Overhang, one for each initial prompt!

First, u/Appropriate-Elk-4676 created an amazing traversal environment in which the PCs have to trek through a Folding Forest. Be careful where you step or you might risk falling into the fold of paper. :)

Another week, another subclass by u/Just-Truth-5823. At this point, I am counting on it!
This week they created the School of Origami Wizard subclass. Literally fold up your spells and make some shenanigans with them!

But this wasnt the only subclass this week. u/PrincessYolda gave us the Colour Stealer Origin for Sorcerer. Meddle with the literal colors of your adversaries, make them black and white, monochromatic or entirely black. They will certainly not like the outcome.

u/NeuroBordeaux created the Aviary of Secrets exploration environment to leave your secrets hidden in a flock of Origami Birds. But be aware that you cannot simply read other peoples secrets by not sacrifizing one of your own - truly inspired design!

u/Luciel03 designed an awesome new ancestry, the Enso. They are crafted vessels by long forgotten entities made of any malleable material.

Lastly, there is a group of homebrew pieces all heavily drawing on the origami bird inspiration. There is a new level 2 Codex domain card, the Origami Bird item, the Enchanted Origami Parchment consumable and the Origami bird Companion - check them out HERE! (by me)

Last weeks round-up
Our illustration last week showed a mighty amber sword and we had once again amazing submissions - so lets have a look at all the creations:

As the artwork was perfect for designing a weapon, we got a few additions in this regard. The first one to leave their mark was u/Just-Truth-5823. They created an extremely versatile sword with exchangeable blades that you can swap on the fly for a variety of effects.

Next, u/schmaul brought us a venomous resin sword that might fall apart after a while. But fear not, once the sword breaks, you release the encased scorpion and gain access to a new companion!

u/jacobwojo gaves us a real cool Standard adversary, the Crimson Guard, that comes with their own prayer dice.

u/NeuroBordeaux meddled with fate itself and produced a legendary item that lets you peer into the future: the Encased Constellation. Will you tempt fate?

Over on the Heart of Daggers Discord, SomnoPrivato designed a Bloodhunters best friend, the Sucker Sword. Lick the blood of your enemies to literally taste their weaknesses!

Lastly, we've got another sword, but this time it wants to be mastered. When Somnium Scorpio is wielded and mastered, you gain access to a whole new domain ability, Vigil Scorpio. Unleash the scorpion hidden in the blade to do lots of battlefield shenanigans! (by me)

First up, we've got another showcase of u/Just-Truth-5823's subclass mastery. This time, they brought us the Warden of the Swarm Druid. Didn't you also dream at some point to become a swarm of insects and annoy your enemies? No, just me?

u/NeuroBordeaux gifted us with an item to befriend anything and anyone, in an instant - the Befriending Strawberry. Go forth and make friends - ain't nobody think of any malicious ways on how to exploit this - we are all nice here!

Lastly, we've got a weird little fellow who at first looks like a creepy crawly but then might be realized as a cute bug who just wants to make friends. Meet, the Berrybog Crawler, a Tier 2 Social adversary. Are you nice to him? If the answer is yes, you might gain access to its companion form! (by me)

u/NeuroBordeaux perhaps just needs a little bit of a nudge to make their dreams of a campaign frame focusing on an elite postmaster troupe come true. They already showed a highly intriguing concept for that frame - please make it a reality! :D

Lastly: Meet "The Dispatchers", an NPC faction who is all about professional mail and parcel deliveries. It includes 3 notable NPCs, including a feature each as well as a table where PCs can spend certain amounts of gold to buy different services. (by me)

It is actually happening! The first Community-driven Creation Event is alive:

HoDs Fear Fest

What is it?

A month long event in which creators are publishing Halloween-themed supplements for Daggerheart on Heart of Daggers (HoD). Meanwhile, the community celebrates their shared love for Halloween. Regardless of whether you are an experienced creator or an enthusiastic homebrewer, writer, or artist - we encourage everyone to join in this first-of-its-kind, community-led Creation Event on HoD.

Q&A

I've never published anything and don't know how - what can I do?

Fear not for you are in luck: Daggerheart additional Designers Mike Underwood u/MichaelRUnderwood and Carlos Cisco u/Losasaurus are offering a Mentorship & Production program for unpublished writers and designers called:
PistolHaunt Menagerie of Mentorship

Chosen creators will create an adversary and an associated environment together with these two legends. The creations will be published in a joint supplement on HoD afterwards!

But that's not all. We encourage everyone who always thought of seeing their own creations be released in a publication to come forth and throw their hat into the ring! Even if you are not picked for the mentorship program, at least 10 more creations will be chosen by the community and prepared for publication. There is a very high probability that the remaining creations will be picked up as well as many creators have offered their editing and layout skills to uplift the community. So don't hold back!

I have already a release planned for Halloween - what do I get out of it?

Great to hear you are planning ahead! We will make a combined marketing push for all participating publications including posts about all additions on major platforms, videos, interviews and streams with creators and perhaps even Actual Plays! October will be a whole month dedicated to celebrating the HoD creator community and their spooky supplements!

I don't feel comfortable with my skills yet. Is there another way to participate?

Sure! New supplements want to be playtested. We anticipate a couple of internal playtest sessions which will need some playtesters! Or you could just join in the party and celebrate Fear Fest together with the community. :smile:

Im interested to join, what do I do?

Simple - head on over to the Heart of Daggers Discord Server and look out for the Fear Fest channel. We also created a Matchmaking channel for you to potentially find the creator buddy of your dreams to produce and publish a supplement together or just chat about your shared interests.
