Can't decide between a Macbook Pro and an upgradable windows gaming laptop

  • Region

Europe

  • Budget

$1000-$2000

  • Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Maybe

  • Screen size

15-18

  • Weight limit

Any

  • Purpose

- Dev work (web dev, low level, game dev, ai dev)

- Video editing and motion graphics

- Graphic design

- Heavy browsing (10-20 tabs open at once)

  • Form factor

Regular laptop

  • Intended usage

Normal web dev and low level with VSCode and typical compilers/interpreters.

Game dev: Godot and Unity + testing the games (games are developed for windows)

Creative work: Adobe software (Premiere, AE) - Blender - Figma

  • Desired battery life

6-8 hours is ideal

  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

- Performance

- UPGRADABILITY (I really need something upgradable so that I won't have to spend another $1k-2k every 3-4 years, this is why I'm afraid of going for a macbook, even though it's excellent for almost all of my use case)

- Battery life

- Aesthetic and noise (preferrably not a laptop that looks extreme or has zigzags everywhere and sounds like a jet engine)

- Weight and size don't matter

  • Info/Requirements

[anything else not specified above eg. Intel only, OLED, HDR-compliant, screen resolution/refresh rate, etc. We are likely to talk you away from your desires here (because we know more than you do), but we won't steer you wrong]

- Any screen is fine but preferrably OLED

- >100Hz

- > 1920x1080

- AT LEAST the RAM and Storage should be upgradable, and the battery can be swapped

---

Considering things like upgradability I don't think a macbook pro is fine, although for every other use case it's perfect honestly.

Laptop suggestion for a dev and video editor

I want to buy a laptop for the following use case:

- Dev work (web dev, low level, self hosting)

- Video editing and motion graphics

- Graphic design

- Having 10-20 tabs open in firefox at once

- Can be repaired or upgraded easily

I'm thinking about getting an ASUS TUF A16. Also the Framework laptops look attractive because they're very modular, repairable and upgradable like desktop PCs (and I have A LOT of hardware sitting around).

Macbooks also seem like a good option but I don't know if it's a good idea to get one in Algeria, and also they're not very upgradable or repairable.

Algerians who went through Campus France, how did you authenticate documents

I have my BAC diploma and bulletins, my Uni bulletins, and my License diploma.

Do I just have to translate them to french, or do I also need to authenticate them in some way (either apostille or the old procedure)?

My uni documents are all already in french, so I guess I only have to translate my BAC.

What about other documents like attestations des stages?

I'm talking about preparing these documents for the initial step, which is preparing my campus france profile to become a candidate in september, not for later stages.

Do i need apostille for my diplomas

I'm going to study abroad inshallah. I have a license diploma, BAC diploma and all the bulletins for them both.

I translated them to french and english, is there something else I need to do? Do I need to go through the apostille process too?

I'm applying to campus france and some german/italian/spanish universities.

Any tech youtube channels with english subtitles?

I'm looking for French channels like Micode and Underscore_ that have english subtitles (because these ones don't) as I find it somewhat difficult to understand some of the stuff they're saying.

I like those two channels because they do documentary/essay style videos about tech, which are really entertaining especially since I work in this field. But unfortunately they don't have English subtitles :(

Best card to send and receive money, and connect to paypal?

I have a wise account but it's gonna be closed in 17th of july unless I provide residence proof (I lied about me residing in Canada). Also I can't connect Wise to PayPal, so I've only been using it to hold the money that I have had for the past 2 years, and buy some stuff from AliExpress.

My main usecase was receiving freelancing money, but I stopped using it because my clients were mostly local and I can just receive money from CCP.

I did some research and these are the cards I found:

- Redotpay (my friend used it to buy some stuff from AliExpress, but I don't know if it's good for receiving money as a freelancer).

- Grey (I got so many ads for this one, I feel like it's a scam but idk)

- Revolut

- Paysera

- Payoneer

I also have heard that you can create an LLC in Wayoming and then create a stripe account for it and it'll work, but idk how difficult this can be and if it's safe (they won't close your account).

Which of these is the best for sending and receiving money mostly, and if you know any other provider that's better lmk.
