I haven't seen this question been brought up by a lot of people, even though I believe that discussing and solving it can resolve a lotttttt of the questions that we have, especially:
-Why does Kris tolerate our possession, even during the horrors of the weird route?
Humans have SOULs and we know that monsters also have SOULs as well. Based on the fact that has a Kris' save file in Chapter 1, we can also assume that Kris, at one point, had the power to save, which usually requires a SOUL. We know that our (the player's) SOUL is possessing Kris, but that begs the question. Where is Kris' SOUL? Kris can't survive without a SOUL; Chapter 5 makes it evident that they begins to wither away without one. So how did they live their life before we came and took over him? My theory is that he has given his SOUL to someone or something for some purpose. I personally think that it is somehow connected to Dess or bringing Dess back. That's also partly a reason why I think Kris tolerates all that we do to him in the weird route even when they is very clearly FUMING at our actions, since while his situation sucks he need our SOUL to survive and get a good ending with whatever their SOUL is doing (up until yk Chapter 5 where they completely resist us). We KNOW Kris isn't an evil character: he cares for his friends, the people of Hometown and his mother despite his frustration with her actions with Sans. Additionally, we also know that the Knight, who has potential to bring about the roaring practically whenever it desires, does not do so, but why? We are rather certain that Kris is working with the Knight, who is likely also connected...somehow...to Dess' dissapearance. I suggest that Kris' SOUL is being kept...or rather given and is with the Knight for a reason related to potentially bringing back or finding Dess. Their SOUL is somewhere and its likely being used for something (Human SOULS, which can persist outside the vessel's body, so its not farfetched that it is there somewhere)...we just don't know what for.
