This is not a post to complain about lack of punctuation. It's just something I find curious. I've read a few books by Saramago (who was a Nobel laureate) and enjoyed them. I haven't read either Jon Fosse or Krasznahorkai, but am I the only one who finds it somewhat weird that both of them received Nobel prizes so recently, and both of them use very little punctuation? Is it some kind of trend in academic literature spaces?

So in the Mediterranean countries we are getting more and more wildfires, including some immense ones. It's a problem.

I've seen a few talks here about fire adapted ecosystems etc. Yes, our forests are fire adapted. But they're not adapted to THIS. Almost all the fires are anthropogenic, which is clear from the fact that basically none of them start on days when there is lightning. As far as I know the only other natural way would be spontaneous combustion, and sure, I guess some of the fires might start like that, but the frequency is ridiculous for that to be anywhere near the main cause. We do know for a fact many of them were anthropogenic. For instance the most recent megafire in Greece that burned more than 10k hectares in Boeotia and Attica was caused by wires from a wind farm inside a forested area. So, there's clearly a huge issue of humans starting massive fires multiple times every single year.

If I recall correctly, the frequency of crown fires for any given area historically should be probably in the order of magnitude of 1 per century in pine forests, and surface ones every maybe 20 years or so. At least that's what I remember reading, I would love to see relevant research on the matter if someone has something to recommend. But what we're seeing here is sometimes even something like two fires a decade in the same place. Forests that are in the process of regenerating get burned again, and then they don't any more because you gotta wait at least 10-15 years for pines to start producing enough cones. They can't handle burning all the time like they are, so what we're seeing is forests replaced by scrubland, and soil erosion. There's also the problem of old reforestations that were badly planned, and the fact that some of the forests in question used to be oak, but for a number of reasons (that usually have to do with humans) they ended up getting replaced by pine or by scrubland.

I don't know what can be done. Some of the anthropogenic causes of fires can be limited, some seem impossible to tackle. Many propose controlled burns and grazing. I see people here are generally not in favor of grazing. I can see some problems but is it really so bad if it's controlled?

Another thing I'm trying to understand is, do "fuel reduction" strategies like these really make so much difference? It is conceivable to me that removing organic matter may make forests less resilient by removing the "natural mulch" that sometimes accumulates on the forest floor, but this might be a silly concern, I am not informed enough on that matter.

I'm sure this post reads very confused. It's probably because I am confused, and very tired. I've come to dread summers. I want to understand what can be done.

Μπορεί και να είναι ιδέα μου αλλά μου φαίνεται πως έχουν γίνει πολύ συνηθισμένα στην Ελλάδα, και δεν μου βγάζει νόημα. Τα ρημάδια είναι δαιμονισμένα. Κάποια όχι σε καθημερινή βάση, αλλά κάποια στιγμή τους τη βαράει και δαιμονίζονται και αυτά. Άντε, για να μην είμαι άδικος, ΚΑΠΟΙΑ είναι καλά σκυλιά. Αλλά γιατί να το ρισκάρεις;

Πέρσι στο χωριό μια οικογένεια (με μικρά παιδάκια) απέναντι είχε ένα πιτ Μπουλ, περνούσε μια άλλη οικογένεια με ένα φυσιολογικό σκυλάκι, και το άτιμο πήδηξε από το πουθενά πάνω από το φράχτη και του όρμηξε, αίματα κλπ. Βγήκαμε να τα χωρίσουμε, ευτυχώς ξύπνησαν και οι ιδιοκτήτες του και το μαζέψανε, με το ζόρι βέβαια. Φέτος ευτυχώς δεν το βλέπω πια, ελπίζω να το σουτάρανε (και όχι στο δρόμο).

Δεν καταλαβαίνω τι θα πάθουν αν πάρουν απλά ένα κανονικό σκυλί. Ακόμα και σκύλο προστάτη να θες, μπορείς να πάρεις έναν μεγάλο σκύλο από άλλη ράτσα που να είναι πιο εκπαιδεύσιμος και λιγότερο επικίνδυνος. Είναι και κακάσχημα μέσα σ' όλα.

Θυμάστε που είχανε πιάσει τον "Ινδιάνο" που έριξε κάτω τον αστυνομικό στη Νέα Σμύρνη; Αυτόν που τελικά ήταν στην Ελευσίνα την ώρα που γίνονταν τα επεισόδια; Θυμάστε που τον συνέλλαβαν λόγω μιας καταγγελίας από κάποιον άκυρο συγγενή, η οποία έκανε μπαμ από το πρώτο δευτερόλεπτο ότι ήταν τελείως ψεύτικη, και μετά έκαναν έρευνα στο σπίτι του και είπαν ότι βρήκαν κι άλλα στοιχεία εναντίον του, γιατί είχε στην ντουλάπα του φόρμα με λευκές ρίγες όπως και αυτός στο βίντεο;

Διαβάζω τώρα ότι κάποιος έστειλε ανώνυμο email στα τζιμάνια του ελληνικού FBI, που καταγγέλει κάποια συγκεκριμένα άτομα για τον εμπρησμό της μαρφίν. Διαβάζω και τίτλους σε ειδησεογραφικά όπως "Marfin: Oι φωτογραφίες που «έκαψαν» τους δράστες 16 χρόνια μετά – Πώς έφτασαν στα ίχνη τους", και "Marfin: Οι φωτογραφίες των διακοπών οδήγησαν στις συλλήψεις". Μπαίνω να διαβάσω τι βρήκαν, και βλέπω:

Με βάση αυτό, και "καθοριστικό στοιχείο" το ότι είχαν ίδια "ρούχα και σακίδια" με κάποιους άλλους που ήταν στα επεισόδια στην ίδια πορεία (χωρίς να γίνεται καν σαφές από τα κωλοάρθρα που γράφουν όλα τα μέσα αν πρόκειται για φωτογραφίες των ατόμων που έβαλαν τη φωτιά ή γενικά και αόριστα από "επεισόδια", αλλά άντε, ας υποθέσουμε πως ήταν από την επίθεση), βγαίνουν τώρα και λένε να, αυτοί είναι, πάμε να τους συλλάβουμε; Είναι απίστευτο που η φαντασία της ΕΛΑΣ φτάνει μέχρι το να τσεκάρει αν κάποιος έχει το ίδιο ρούχο με κάποιον ύποπτο στην ντουλάπα του, και πως νομίζουν ότι αυτό είναι ενοχοποιητικό στοιχείο.

Για την τρίτη που ψάχνουν που ζει στη Βρετανία, λένε πως είχε "δευτερέυοντα ρόλο", ούτε καν ενεργή συμμετοχή. Άρα φαντάζομαι πως για αυτήν δεν έχουν ΟΥΤΕ το αδιάσειστο ενοχοποιητικό στοιχείο "έχει την ίδια μπλούζα με κάποιον στα επεισόδια".

Παρόλα αυτά, έτρεξαν να πάνε να συλλάβουν ανθρώπους για μία υπόθεση που ξεκίνησε πριν 16 χρόνια, χωρίς να έχουν μαζέψει πρώτα σοβαρά στοιχεία εναντίον τους. Γιατί; Προς τι η βιασύνη ξαφνικά; Τόσα χρόνια πέρασαν, τι θα πάθουν να περάσουν δύο μήνες ακόμα να το σκεφτούν πριν τους συλλάβουν;

Πραγματικά αν κάπως αποδειχθεί πως ήταν πράγματι αυτοί, θα είναι τελείως κατά τύχη.

I use Samsung Notes, and it's good enough generally, but I heard from someone that there are apps (don't know if they were for android or iOS) which allow you to zoom very deeply into a document, and I'm guessing the thickness of the pen scales accordingly. The point being that you can effectively fit even a whole page of notes in between lines, written in really tiny script. It sounds like a really useful feature for me, but I tried a couple apps and they don't seem to have it.

Does anyone know if such a thing exists?
