Best non-guitarist to listen to.

Can you suggest a musician or singer who is not a guitar player that inspired your playing? If so, what about them helped you improve?

I think Miles Davis is up there. His phrasing and melodic lines gave me some ideas.

Epiphone 70's Flying V review

So this one....this one I couldn't stop playing at my local guitar store (Manchester Music Mill) after I ran across it during a Gibson/Epiphone event. I finally decided to buy it after a lot of soul searching. And I've played it every.day for two weeks.

I'm not a Flying V guy. Mostly I play PRS models. But the tones on this one are great...they're pretty full and clean sounding with less bite than I expected. Only my hollowbody has a cleaner tone. The neck is ebony and a bit wider than I'm used to, but it is actually a bit more comfortable...less finger squish.

Ergonomically it has rounded angles so it's less stabby...and it is super comfortable to play seated in classical position with the upper angle balanced 'tween my thighs.

Lastly, I'm a huge Star Trek fan and i really want to slap an Enterprise insignia on the pickguard.

Basically it's a flying V for people who don't like flying v's.

Next Steps for Rig

So I have a Boss Katana 50 Gen 3 and I'm trying to decide how to get into using more effects. I've tried messing with the tone studio but I'm kind of frustrated with it. Mostly its because I dont like the interface...its hard to control with a phone or tablet and I'm not really sure how to dial in a good tone with it. I've watched some videos but its still not helping.

Maybe its just me, but I'm considering alternatives. My goals are to record my plsying for instagram or youtube and play live at open mics.

I want to keep it budget friendly.

My options are to build my own pedal board, buy a multi effects pedal, or invest in a modeler using my laptop. Any advice?

I'd like to learn how to modify a guitar and I'm wondering what I should use as a platform. I was thinking an old Squier might do. Is this a good choice?

Basically this. Which extra, day-player, or expendable character made the biggest impression on you in any of the series?

I mentioned Yeoman Tamura in "A Taste of Armageddon" but Lt. Montgomery is up there for throwing hands with a traumatized commodore...and getting whupped by the old man. "The Doomsday Machine".

So I decided to set myself up outside the campus dining hall before our end-of-semester conference and play a bit of guitar. I even had a little sign that read: "Adjunct Instructor. Critiques will be Graded", in case anyone thought I was a vagrant. I actually do teach part-time at this University.

The results were interesting. Some folks were appreciative, but I did notice others that gave me that old side-eyed "don't make eye contact!" look.

What's interesting is the sense of status loss I felt. Normally, I am a colleague of these folks, but for a few minutes I became an outsider. Worse than that, an outsider viewed with a mild level of suspicion.

Assumptions are interesting....

Edit. Just to clarify this wasnt an actual experiment. I was just there as entertainment.

Just looking for affordable options and advice. What electric guitars do you use on the street? Do you use 200-300 dollar beaters or 500 dollar low intermediate?
