Uneven tire movements on X420
Have a X4 running at my mothers house and as I was home last weekend to pack it down for winter, I took a slo-mo recording to better document something I observed when setting it up earlier this year.
When running in automated mode (not using the mobile as a remote) the 4 electric motors do not spin evenly. In this video, you can see the front right wheel stop severel times and if you watch carefully at the read wheels you will see slight slipping as they may spin too fast.
You can actually hear this as knocking sounds as it drives.
The effect in areas with soft ground or steep slopes (it is climbing a slope of roughly 16 degrees here) is drastic. It slowly carves up the grass.
There are a few reports from others noticing the same and if you view the review at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msXwAwMlfq0 you can see great examples of the wheels "living in different worlds at times". For instance at 18:40 you can see the left front tire roll backwards while the left rear tire is spinning trying to get forwards.
If I control the mower using the mobile phone as remote control, this problem goes away or is at least dramatically reduced.
I have hill that the x420 drives straight up with just a tiny bit of slipping if I remote control it, but it simply cannot climb it if I map it and let it try to mow by itself. It just carves up the grass trying.
This nervous behaviour must also add a lot of strain on that rear axel pivot point that many has reported failing.
Segway should really look into this both to avoid damaging the grass but also to reduce the amount of rear axel failures.
