Somerset charity may have to close due to lack of funding

Hi everyone. I'm posting here in total desperation, because I am out of ideas and would love your thoughts or support.

I work for Frome Birth Talk, a charity offering free counselling to people in the Frome area who've just had a baby, who are pregnant, or who have lost a pregnancy or child. Anyone who has become a parent or experienced baby loss will know how utterly life changing it is - and many people struggle to cope.

Our service picks up the pieces the NHS isn't able to. We see 200 parents a year for professional, accessible counselling when they need it most. A single mum of 3 last week told us she wouldn't be here without our free counselling. Our waiting list is 2 weeks compared to NHS 16 weeks.

But the funding landscape is bad, and we can't survive much longer without a big injection of cash. We are SUCH good value for money, but somehow mental health (in particular parents mental health) is ignored time and time again.

We have set up an emergency appeal. We have a week before we need to close our waiting list and start winding down. Hundreds of families need this - and let's face it, I'll bet you wish your town had this service too.

Somerset people, help me. I need to get this message in front of anyone who could turn this around. Philanthropists, big corporates who want to donate money and write the tax off. Someone who has just won the lottery.

If you can share this, please do. Everyone should be able to access mental health support without fear of financial ruin - and babies grow up safer and happier with parents who are well.

If you've got this far, thank you ❤️ even your words of encouragement would be helpful right now.

In need of career advice & guidance

I'm tentatively looking for a new position, but lack confidence in knowing exactly what I am searching for, what level of responsibility I should be shooting for, and exactly what type of role I would be best suited for. My current role is one where I have to do absolutely everything - and as such I don't specialise in any one area. But I am extremely organised and a very quick learner.

In essence I think I need to sit with someone for some general career guidance and advice. I'm not coming from a corporate background and don't intend to jump into that now - so I'm not looking for one of these high powered career coaches who charges thousands.

Does anyone have any advice on how to gain a bit more clarity, or have any words of wisdom? What would you do?

Goal reached!

I started at 12st 2lbs on April 26th, with the goal of getting down to where I was before pregnancies. 16 weeks and 30lbs gone, I can't believe it! Did 1 month of 2.5 and have been on 5mg ever since. No desire or need to increase dose.

I don't really know what to do now! My goal was always 10st but this still puts me as 'overweight' according to BMI. I'm also concerned about stopping and gaining a few lbs. For that reason I think I may move the goalposts and aim for a few more lbs before weaning off! But overall I'm so much happier in myself now and it's the best thing I've ever done!

NSV!

Went to a garden party today and wore my favourite jumpsuit - a piece I bought before I got married/had kids 10 years ago - and just couldn't part with 'just in case' I ever fit in it again. So happy!!!

I can't get no (satisfaction)

I'm feeling flat. I'm struggling to get satisfaction from anything, at all. I used to have that 'oof yeah' sensation when doing something delicious - great food, glass of wine at the end of a hard day, sex. Now I don't have that sensation, ever.

Food is fine, wine is fine, sex is fine. But nothing is satisfying and fantastic and a bit slutty and gorgeous. I'm even finding myself bored out my mind with other things such as my job and friendships. I cannot find a single TV show or podcast which grips me and I feel in limbo.

It's like the desire and satisfaction of food has gradually faded, and it's now taking every other kind of desire and satisfaction. I've got about 8lbs left to lose so it's not much, but I was hoping to titrate down and stay on MJ for at least another few months before coming off. But now I don't know if I can do it. Anyone else?

20lbs down! 🥳

Really pleased with the progress - 20lbs down and 10lbs to go until my target of 10 stone. We'll see if I change the goalposts then, but for now I'm very happy!

Heatwave, period, or new dose?

On Sunday several things happened at once: I moved up from 2.5 to 3.75mg after my first month on 2.5, we suddenly experienced a heatwave of 34 degrees, and I got my period which was pretty heavy.

By Monday morning I was shaking, weak, and unable to catch my breath. I started to feel completely panicked and like I was going to faint. The heat has been suffocating with no relief - my house is too well insulated!! A few days later and I still feel like I can't quite get my full lung capacity in and feel a bit wobbly, like a sugar low or something.

Admittedly I would usually eat a LOT around my period and feel weak/fatigued, but add MJ in the mix and I these symptoms have been awful. I've been drinking lots of water but not eaten much.

Has anyone experienced the same thing? I'm wondering if I should try to avoid taking MJ on day 1 of my period but that's just how my days have worked out!

Three weeks in & 9lbs down

Starting to notice some changes... 3 weeks on 2.5mg and 9lbs down. Now feeling ready for 5mg as hunger is definitely more noticeable than it was in the first week.
