A French Woman in England

"Right now, I'm in England. My first funny story is that I was in a bar in Bath. I ordered a Coke, and the lady put loads of ice in the glass. I didn't want any, so I said 'no glass,' thinking that meant without ice. But she took the glass and the ice away, and I ended up drinking my Coke straight from the bottle on the terrace!" 😂😂😂😂

Chew valley

My partner and I are planning a move later this year as we’re expecting our first child and want to be closer (not too close) to family in Weston.

We’re ideally looking for somewhere with a good mix of young professionals / young families, a friendly community feel, nice local pubs, cafés etc.

We quite like the chew valley area, are there here you would recommend or avoid? Any other suggestions also welcome! Budget of 550-575.

Appreciate any advice - thanks in advance!

Wedding venue recommendation

I’m getting married in spring 2028 and we are looking for a venue in the Somerset / Dorset area to fit 100 guests. Any recommendations?

Moving to Wellington?

We have just moved out of London and after months of looking at houses in Taunton, we are now considering looking at Wellington as well. It’s very convenient for both of our jobs, so that’s a big positive for us.

Honest opinions please…
Is it a nice place to live? Good pubs? Any restaurants? Or do you need to travel for most things?
We have a 1 year old… is it a nice place to raise a child?

We viewed a house on Station Road. It has no parking. Would this be a complete nightmare? Or doable? How busy does Station Road get?

Thank you in advance!!

Castle Cary station parking - can anybody reassure me please :')

Nice quick question, as the station itself doesn't have a direct external number any more, so I can't ask them.

Later this year, on a particularly busy date, my wife and I have booked tickets from Castle Cary for a couple of nights. We know there's nearby parking and it's 24-hour, and we should be fine to leave it there for a couple of days - but does the car park get very busy? Iirc the station is a bit remote (though still our closest) so we're slightly apprehensive about capacity. If it's never usually an issue according to people who know better, I think I'll finally relax a bit and tell her it's okay for real.

Thanks!

Sports in Somerset

Hello all!

Californian American over here. Recently I’ve been getting more into British sports. My family immigrated to the US from the Priddy / Wells area in Somerset back in the 1600s, and I’d love to start following the teams that locals from that region root for!

I'm curious to know who the local favorites generally are. In particular, I’m interested in football and cricket, but I’d love to hear about rugby or any other regional sports too. (Men's and women's sports both welcome!)

From what I can tell, it seems like Bristol City is the main football club for the area? Would they be the right team to pull for around the Mendips?

Also, forgive my ignorance, but is it common for locals to root for multiple football teams across different divisions? My brother is an Arsenal fan, so I'm wondering if folks in Somerset ever have an EFL team and a Premier League team, or if that’s a total taboo bandwagoning (especially with promotion/relegation)?

Appreciate any insights or local sports history you can throw my way!

Eclipse glasses

Long shot, but I have had two orders cancelled by company and now out of options.

Does anyone know if there is anywhere selling them in Somerset? Preferably near Taunton/Wellington area.

Appreciate any support!

People's experience in the gen 2 Education and Early Years T Level

I'm starting the education and early years T level in September. I am very excited, and have been volunteering with kids in various educational settings for years and been taking various courses surrounding early years for a few years. I am very excited for the content and placements but I found my college (will be Bath College) gives very little detail on the actual exams and employer set project. For people that have just finished their first year in the gen 2, what is it like?
