Where do I start!

I think I got this one around 1999, I believe it’s from 1996 or so, and it is what it is! Incredibly fun, only front wheel drive, I guess it is Kyosho, have only just found it and the radio gear works great.

It needs to live again, if only I could get some parts for it that have perished! Don’t care if it’s aftermarket. (Sorry I don’t have much information about the particulars - make, model, just lucky to have found it intact)

Obviously I need to pull down the engine and clean it all, I might need a new fuel tank…

Suggestions for someone to hassle for parts, or just general advice… fuel, etc, also I remember that there was a 2speed gearbox/ clutch available for this back in the day, could it be possible?

Tasmania Australia for reference of availability to obtain economically viable parts. (Maybe cheaper to get a whole new one right?)!!!

Ni-Cd/6s vintage battery potential recovery

Back in the mid/late 90s my passion was RC cars!
I came from a low socioeconomic situation but was extremely lucky and grateful to have a Kyosho ford focus RC car. I must have saved hard doing my paper round to afford it!

Anyway, I needed a battery. It was Ni-Cd 7.2v.
Somehow ended up with 2 of them.

Battery A was old from early 90s - SANYO (GO) from an older Black Wolf RC buggy. That one was cool, it could drag me down the road on my rollerblades!

I revived this battery by cheating the charger into thinking it was a smaller battery until it recognised what it actually was… crusty old stiff cells or something!

Success… for now. It made the car work.

Battery B is Tamiya RC1400SP. I must have got this around the time I got the Kyosho focus. Late 90s.

I found that I couldn’t cheat the charger with this one, so I am currently trying to smash in 0.20A @ 9.0v on my DC regulated power supply while keeping an eye on temperature. So far this is working, now I have put it back onto the proper charger and it is working without throwing faults for now.

For those more experienced than myself, I am using a SKYRC B6neo as my “proper” charger, Probably not everyone’s favourite flavour of charger but it seems to be doing me and my son alright.

The young bloke is the whole reason for me digging up these old relics that I’m lucky to have been able to hold onto, he just got himself a small basher on LiPo 3s (I’m quite impressed with). (Hence the B6neo charger).

Anyhow, these are my findings on revival of vintage Ni-Cd 7.2v, if all fails I might consider converting to brushless motor and LiPo. Currently running PARMA brushed DC motor that I got aftermarket, controller is crappy, suggestions for replacement controller??
