I've been looking for this book on Time travel/ Conciousness transfer

I remember reading a book where there was a discovery of some form of unlimited energy source in the past. The use of this tech made the present extremely unstable.

Also, scientists developed an experimental technology that could send a person's consciousness back to the past. They tested this technology on a military personnel. A drawback was that there was no known way to bring him back once he was sent.

This tech was supposed to be used to send this person back to the past to take over the body and mind of an old guy who was a friend of the inventor of the unlimited energy, to try to reverse it.

When he arrived in the past, he found himself in the body of a younger person, which was unplanned. Also, his consciousness couldn’t completely overwrite the original one. Instead, the two had to coexist in the same brain, and work together to warn the inventor about the dangers of the tech.

When they accomplished their mission, the younger kid was somehow critically injured (i think there was a lot of running from police//etc). He was then connected to a machine that scanned brain waves, which was supposed to show only one graph representing a single consciousness. However, it displayed two distinct graphs, revealing the presence of two consciousnesses.

Finally, after the boy was given CPR or was electrically revived, the second consciousness, the soldier’s, was somehow able to return to the future, which again was unexpected.

i couldnt find this book anywhere else, i had once read this book from our school library, years ago.

Issues with SMS

I switched to lineage today, and so far its pretty decent. Im using samsung s20fe 5g (r8q), the snapdragon one, and chose the nightly lineage os.

However I am unable to send any sms, and it is pretty annoying. Apperently its required for upi payments to work, and im stuck and unable to use it now.

Im not sure how to fix/debug it, if anyone has any ideas or knows a solution please lmk!

What are these 2.5mm screw holes behind the zotac rtx 3080 amp holo card?

Im thinking if i could 3d print a stand using these holes for mounting. Is there already models using it? If not then what are these for?

suggestions for egpu enclosure (not dock)?

Hi! after lots of thought and research, I got a second hand rtx 3080 and im using a cheap tb4 dock (link).

So far its going amazing, but i dont really have a place for keeping the psu and the gpu safely.

Im thinking of getting either a 3d printed enclosure or an atx case to hold the these and to hide the wires (non modular psu).

While getting a full pc case would be preferable, it would take up lots of space(which my table doesnt have). but on the other hand there arent many options for the 3d printed case either. I found one good case made for this/similar dock, but it only supports powering the dock via the 12v barrel jack/usb c pd, both of which i dont have rn.

What should i do?

Help with raid setup, and other options

My current setup consists of a 1 tb m.2 ssd and a single 500 gb hard drive running Ubuntu Server. I'm planning to add three more 500 GB hard drives, giving me a total of:
1 × 1 tb nvme ssd
4 × 500 GB hdd

my main goal is to configure the four hard drives as a raid array so I get a good amount of usable storage while still having protection against a single drive failure.

The main issue is that the server is already up and running with ubuntu server installed. I'm unsure how to migrate or reconfigure the system to use the four hdd in a raid setup without unnecessarily complicating the existing installation.

I'm also wondering whether it's possible to combine all of the storage (1 tb ssd + 4 × 500 GB hdd) into the raid array, or whether it's better to keep the ssd and hdd array separate.

My current idea is:
Use the 1tb ssd as the boot drive and for the operating system, applications, containers/VMs, and other data that can be easily recreated or reinstalled. i dont really know any other use for it, maybe if its not being utilized well ill put it into my laptop and use my laptop's 500gb stick in it.

Ill then configure the four 500 GB hard drives as a raid 5 array, giving approximately 1.5tb, from what ive read.

currently, I only have a general understanding of raid. I know the different levels exist, but I haven't actually configured one before. I'll be reading tutorials on it and its related tools, but I'd appreciate guidance on what storage layout would make the most sense before I start making changes :)

Modular Applications on ESP?

The idea is to have an application which can support add-ons/modules you can install separately, kind of how the linux kernel works. For example, in a wifi based app, you may want location tracking as well (via a gps module) so you could load the code for the gps module on the fly, and attach the module to it.

The main point being you dont have to chamge the base code to support new add-ons, which you can add and remove based on use.

Is there a framework supporting this? And if not, what would it require to work?

Im guessing it would need an sdk, some sort of scheduler, and a way to dynamically change the executable memory regions.

What are your thoughts on it?

After much thought, egpu is prolly the way

As I already have a laptop with a good display, and a decent cpu. It has tb4 asw

So ive been thinking to dip my toes into egpu before i invest in a full pc. Im planning to get a low-mid tier gpu (rtx 3050, rx 6600 tier, i just need decent 1080p at mid-high).

For the dock ive been looking at :

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/External-Graphics-Card-Dock-External-GPU\_1601011215444.html?spm=a2700.prosearch.normal\_offer.d\_title.7e3467afBCtNNc&priceId=d0f096e5b7e740aa93c2e15fe7520ff5

I have a thin and light laptop, intel i5 12500h cpu 16gb ram(of which 8gb soldered)

Any suggestions? Im not really sure about the dock, so if you have amy experience with it please do tell. Alos i know ill peolly be using an external monitor for better performance, but how much will i be losing if i insist to play on my laptop display?

When to consider use of egpu

From my limited research and talking to a few people much more knowledgable than i am, i kinda want to know, what makes you consider getting an egpu? And beyond what would you prefer a full desktop?

From what i have seen around, the egpu enclosure+a decent gpu (rtx3070, for example) can go approx 400dollars at which price point, you can get a full pc in the second hand market with same gpu.

I understand that the portability of laptops gives it an edge, but specially for m.2 adapters you also do lose the portability.

Also, there is the aspect of having fun with tinkering and experimenting, but at the end, when should you get an egpu setup over a full desktop setup?

looking for a decent video/image dev board

hi! i wanted to ask if there is a dev board similar to the esp32cam which can be used for 1080p 30+fps camera feed. I saw a few people on yt "hack" a usb webcam to get access to a soc which has capability for hardware accelerated encoding/decoding.
I wanted to ask if there are similar microcontroller/soc, which will use low power and has the capability to record/transmit 1080p video.\

Switching to Lineage OS

i have been really interested in getting lineage os
I have a samsung s20 fe 5g snapdragon version, (r8q) and i am currently on evoX android 16. Its an unofficial build, and it has a fair number of bugs due to which i want to switch to LOS.

Now, im wondering if i should root the phone or not, considering i want to use upi apps (its a qr based payment system in India) and these apps will be checking for root and/or strong play integrity. While i dont want to use google apps, i will require play store as its probably the only place i can get the payment apps i need. (MindTheGapps is probably the way to go)

so is it possible to get play integrity without root? if so, where can i find a guide for it? im an absolute beginner, i doubt i have any understanding of how these work, but im eager to learn.

also from what i have read, there are 3 levels of integrity- basic, device and strong. I dont know upi apps like bhim require which one, but its clearly not basic :/

can i get upto the device integrity by installing LOS with mindthegapps (no root)?

while im still quite a while away from buying an egpu, i wanted to understand a decent amount before committing to it..

  • was wondering if its better to use the m.2 slot with 16 lane pcie converter for the gpu, and connect the ssd via a thunderbolt dock. From what i know, m.2 uses pcie4, while tb4 supports pcie3
  • or using tb4 for egpu, and m.2 for ssd as intended.

i dont really know much about the boost i may get moving from pcie 3 to 4, or if it is even stable/supported to attach a gpu to it

unfortunately, my laptop (asus vivobook K3402ZA) has only one m.2 slot, so having both connected to m.2 isnt possible. It has a tb4 port (2 physical ports, from what i understand both share the same controller)
