[3] The 25K GeoDetective challenge (no time limit, 100% pinpointable) - Series 33: #02 - (2 DAYS MIN)

Link to challenge 2 series 33. Congratulations to charliebobo82 and bitlympics who both take top spot in this new series (3 points, 10 yards), and to FtoT Tin0F who comes second (2 points, 12 yards). All other 25K's get 1 point. Table is updated below.

Today's has a couple of hard ones. R4 will probably look to be the scariest, though I think it's easier than it looks. I have no real way of knowing if that is the case, but I think there are enough clues there. Even so: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

[3] The 25K GeoDetective challenge (no time limit, 100% pinpointable) - Series 33: #01 - (2 DAYS MIN - NEW SERIES)

Link to challenge 1 series 33. Congratulations to Stranded on the Moon for first place (3 points, 15 yards) and to both Angoose52 and LaDecadence for second spot (2 points, 16 yards). All other 25K's get 1 point. Multiple tables updated below. Congratulations to moonradio for winning the series, making it twice in a row.

Today's is the start of a new series so I try not to make it too scary. I think R3 may be slightly harder because of the remoteness of it but it's all quite gettable. Nonetheless: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

[3] The 25K GeoDetective challenge (no time limit, 100% pinpointable) - Series 32: #12 - (2 DAYS - LAST IN SERIES)

Link to challenge 12 series 32. Congratulations to Sonny for top place (3 points, 20 yards) and to Stranded on the Moon for second (2 points, 24 yards). All other 25K's get 1 point. Table is updated below.

moonradio has technically won series 32, and can only be joined at the top by Angoose52 were he/she to fail to get a single point in the next round. What this also means is that were moonradio the only one to score either 3 or 2 points in the next round, then there is the unlikely possibility of whoever comes third will end up scoring 2 instead of 1. It's unlikely, but stranger things have happened. Either way, still plenty to fight for, since the top ten get points carried over into the separate tally. Potentially, just getting 8 points overall may be enough for this.

Today's is relatively straightforward, I think, with only really R4 requiring perhaps a little more deliberation. Nonetheless: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

[3] The 25K GeoDetective challenge (no time limit, 100% pinpointable) - Series 32: #11 - (TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE SPECIAL - 2 DAYS)

Link to challenge 11 series 32. Congratulations to Stranded on the Moon for top spot (3 points, 15 yards) and to Ruffinnen for second place (2 points, 16 yards). All other 25K's get 1 point. Table is updated below.

Today's is all about total solar eclipses, and includes prime locations for viewing the next five eclipses that have official coverage, in order, beginning with today's total eclipse, in which I will be showing where I will be watching it from in case any of you happen to be in the local vicinity and wish to meet your mapmaker. In the "notes" section you will find further info about the eclipse in question. R5 is by far the hardest of the five (and, coincidentally, the least interesting, considering that you will only get an annular eclipse there, but in the village where you do get totality it was too difficult to pinpoint). All the same: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

moonradio guarantees at the very least co-winning this series if he/she gets three points in the next challenge. But there's lots of other points up for grabs so keep trying for them!

Link to challenge 9 series 32. Congratulations to both Brussels Waffles and to Reben who both come top (3 points, 9 yards), and to both CherrieAnnie (welcome back!) and to PhobosDeimos who come second (2 points, 10 yards). All other 25K's get 1 point. Table is updated below.

Today's is not too bad. I'm afraid that R5 is not easy to pinpoint accurately because of the lack of any building outlines on Google Maps, but I guess everyone is in the same boat, so it's luck of the draw really. And, as ever: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

[3] The 25K GeoDetective challenge (no time limit, 100% pinpointable) - Series 32: #8 - (2 DAYS MIN)

Link to challenge 8 series 32. Congratulations to moonradio for top spot (3 points, 17 yards), and to Geography Noob for second place (2 points, 22 yards). I see quite a lot of your failed to 25K in the last challenge because of >!R3 being one block away in the Rwanda round, but I have reviewed it and really the lack of a divided highway in the location a lot of you ended up choosing means that I don't think the location was too ambiguous, as where a lot of you chose had no such divided highway.!< All other 25K's get 1 point. Table is updated below.

Today's should be okay but I'm notoriously bad at thinking what is easy and what isn't. I would say that R4 is the hardest, simply because a "process of elimination" has to be used to disregard other possible locations. But I don't think it should be too bad. But, as ever: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

[3] The 25K GeoDetective challenge (no time limit, 100% pinpointable) - Series 32: #7 - (2 DAYS MIN)

Link to challenge 7 series 32. Congratulations to Stranded on the Moon, moonradio and LaDecadence who all score 4 points in this special round (4 points, 16 yards), and Geography Noob and Lyloor who score 3 points (3 points, 18 yards). All other 25K's get two points. Those who got four 5Ks will score one point. Table is updated below.

Today's should be a lot easier, though a lot of you found challenge 6 easy, so what do I know. What I will say is that the pinpointing is a bit off in this challenge. Not enough for you to not get 5K, but enough for those of you whe strive to get within a couple of yards to find this one frustrating. I reckoned that I may as well group these ones together. And, as ever: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

[3] The 25K GeoDetective challenge (no time limit, 100% pinpointable) - Series 32: #6 - (6 DAYS - INTENSE SPECIAL - READ SPECIAL ONE-OFF RULES)

Link to challenge 6 series 32. Congratulations to Geography Noob for top spot (3 points, 10 yards) and to bitlympics for coming second (2 points, 11 yards). All other 25K's get one point. Table is updated below.

You will have noticed that I am a day late with challenge 6. That's because it's special. It's really really hard. The reason: I am off at a music festival between tomorrow and Monday evening. Limited mobile connection. So I have been saving the real stinkers to put in this one. But: you have six days. So you could do one round a day if you wanted to. Even Giovanni (by far the fastest, though it's not a race) will I think struggle to do this within an hour. (Please don't rush it, though: there's no extra points for doing it faster!)

The rules are different this time, because you are allowed to completely screw up one round. If you don't manage to get 25K, you are still going to get points if you only get four 5Ks.

Basically, whoever gets the closest 25K gets 4 points, whoever comes second gets 3 points, and everyone else who gets 25K gets 2 points. But if you only get a perfect score on four rounds, irrespective of whether you get 0 or 4999 on the other one, you get 1 point.

So, and in particular with this challenge: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

Strongest regions?

https://preview.redd.it/3vikosz7v3fh1.png?width=302&format=png&auto=webp&s=ef1683d6068512620029e0a487f2f378a18be5b3

How exactly are the strongest/weakest regions worked out? I understand Spain being my strongest: I lived there 20 years and consider myself one of the better Spanish players. But Colombia I rarely do much more than hit middle (or north if it's sandy), and Guatemala I'm pretty bad at region guessing; I think I've had Guatemala in my top three since these stats came out. However, when I play NMPZ I rarely even get the country right! I would say Guatemala is one of my worst countries, if I'm frank.

Yes, it's tiny. But surely a region guess in a country means you're good within that country. If it's all about how far away we are, then we'd all have Monaco, Andorra and Singapore as our numbers 1,2,3.

I don't reallly understand how they work it out. And then it lists Canada as a bad country, whereas I almost always get roughly the right region. I'm far better at Canada than USA, that's for sure!

I'm also gobsmacked the UK isn't in my top 3. I live here, have travelled a fair bit around these islands, do quite well at the UK maps. I certainly am miles better at the UK than at Colombia. I play NM mainly, but can generally get a feel for the UK area within about 100 miles.

Wondered whether anyone else here disagreed strongly with their own strongest/weakest stats, or if it's just me.

[3] The 25K GeoDetective challenge (no time limit, 100% pinpointable) - Series 31: #12 - (LAST IN SERIES - 2 DAYS)

Link to challenge 12 series 31. Congratulations to Benh2 for top spot (3 points, 5 yards) and the a trio of Johanna, plouky and Brussels Waffles who all came second (2 points, 7 yards). It's crazy how many of you were so accurate in this round, with the top 13 25K'in with 10 yards of fewer. It's probably the most accurate and close-run game we've had, so extra kudos to thos who made the top two. All other 25K's get one point. Table is updated below.

Congratulations to moonradio for winning the series with one game to go. The only one who could feasibly draw level with him is FtoT TinOF and that would depend on moonradio scoring zero, which seems very unlikely since he's 25K's ever challenge this series. If moonradio is the only one to score 3 in this challenge, then while he can make his tally even more impressive with another three points, whoever come second would also get three points, and whoever is third would get two points. It's happened before, I know what to do. But please keep trying, as there's plenty of extra points to grab which are added to the overall tally I have been running since I started this series. The top 10 all score points, so keep trying even if moonradio is unassailable! So far, it's looking as though 8 points across the series is enough to get some points in the overall tally.

Today's, being the final challenge of the series, is not too mean. They're not all that easy to get spot on to the nearest yard, but they should allbe gettable. R3 will be the hardest I think, and may leave you scratching your heads to puzzle it out, but it's actually a lot easier than it looks. Nonetheless, as always: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

[3] The 25K GeoDetective challenge (no time limit, 100% pinpointable) - Series 31: #11 - (WORLD CUP SEMIS - 2 DAYS - READ NOTE)

Link to challenge 11 series 31. Congratulations to moonradio for top spot (3 points, 13 yards) and to FtoT TinOF for coming second (2 points, 17 yards). (For anyone wondering, Koen asked for his score not to be counted in this round). All other 25K's get one point. Table is updated below.

Moonradio moves in front by three points, but FtoT TinOF, Chbigelow and LaDecadence could still technically catch up with him if moonradio does poorly in the next two games. However, there's loads of points still up for grabs for coming top ten, which get added onto a separate table at the end which is a separate tally.

First of all, apologies for the extra hard rounds yesterday. There's only going to be one really hard one this time around (R5). Spain, England, France and Argentina have all qualified for the World Cup semifinals, and today's five rounds are all from locations where one of the players was born. If you're curious who it was, I have added them to the "Trivia" section once you finish each round. It may be worth noticing that, since this is not a full world map, the distance you can get away with and still get 5K will not be as generous as usual. However, as always: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

Today's hasn't got any really hard ones, though a couple of them may take a bit of scanning, but not too much, especially if you have heard of the place already. And, as always: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

This is the fifth of the thirty-first series based on my own GeoDetective map. No moving, no time-limit (take your time!). There is always a clue somewhere that will help you pinpoint the location, some are easier than others. Feel free to leave walkthroughs in comments or ask where the clue was if you missed it, but always use the spoiler tag so as not to >!spoil !<it for others! Official coverage only.

[3] The 25K GeoDetective challenge (no time limit, 100% pinpointable) - Series 31: #04 - (2 DAYS)

Link to challenge 4 series 31. Congratulations to LaDecadence for top spot (3 points, 8 yards) and all four of FtoT TinOF, tcn, moonradio and Reben who all come second (2 points, 10 yards). All other 25K's get one point. Table is updated below.

Today's has a couple of tricky ones. R1 will flummox some of you for a while, but I assure you it's perfectly pinpointable. R4 is very hard because of the camera quality, but again the clues are all there. Good luck! And, as always: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.
