IEM salt lake BTech cse
Hey guys,
I’m joining IEM Salt Lake this year for B.Tech CSE. Before everyone rolls their eyes and hits me with the classic "run away" or "it’s a school with a B.Tech degree," trust me—I already get it. I’ve seen all the rants about the uniforms, the 75% attendance obsession, and the endless assignments. I know what I’m walking into.
But there’s one specific thing nobody actually explains, and I need a real answer from current students or alumni:
Is it so strict that you literally can't even chill with your friends during free periods, gaps, or after college?
People keep saying "there's no campus life," but what does that actually mean on a daily basis?
During free periods/gaps: Are we forced to just sit in the classroom like kids? Can you actually hang out in the canteen or find a spot to just talk, or are guards/management constantly breathing down your neck?
Leaving the gates: Can you step outside the building during lunch or a long gap to grab a bite in Sector V, or is it a total lockdown until classes end?
Evenings and Sem Gaps: Once the daily classes wrap up or when the semester ends, do people actually hang out, explore Salt Lake, and have a life? Or does the workload completely fry your brain to the point where your social life is just dead?
I’m not expecting some crazy, massive campus festival vibe. I just want to know if I can make a solid group of friends and actually hang out during the day without getting penalised, or if the vibe is genuinely so suffocating that even talking in your free time is an issue.
