One of my first custom flies, I call it, the Murf Midge

The other day while sitting down tying a few Waltz Worms I had an epiphany, the cat hair that plagued every corner of my house would be a fantastic lineal worm colored dubbing! So I did what any rational individual would do and sat my cat (Murf) down and pet him until I had enough to fill a ziploc bag. This is the resulting fly pattern.

Caught a nice smallie today on the river with the classics Texas worm, for whatever reason the hook came out through the very back of the roof of his mouth. He bled pretty profusely, but the hook removal went ok (if a bit crunchy) and he swam off no problem, but I can’t say I’ve seen a fish bleed that much, and or get hooked that deep and be ok. Any thoughts on how he is or how to prevent it in the future?
