It’s almost 100° but you can cool off in the Kankakee River and there are private locations past the bridge with breathtaking views

My dad’s dad’s dad’s dad’s dad’s dad fought for the Indiana 22nd Infantry during the Civil War and I’m proud

2/3 of his regiment was killed. He was blessed. I wouldn’t even be on this planet had he been KIA. This young Corporal survived and fought in a number of battles, including the battle of stone’s river and battle of Pea ridge. He was wounded. Later elected justice of peace. His dad’s dad’s dad was an American Patriot during the Revolutionary War.

I got other great grandfathers who fought during the civil war, but I feel the most connected to him.

The industrial city of Gary, Indiana feels like the rural countryside and has odd side streets

I lived alone in a gang chapter on the west side of Chicago for several years. AMA

This wasn’t very long ago. I was in my mid 20s. Witnessed multiple shootings, various types of crimes, and some weird sketchy characters. Also built relationships with some really great, authentic and hardworking people who were great neighbors and I will never forget them.
