Hi guys, I was given a group of tiger barbs and one of them has a pretty bad tail, not sure if it nipping or rot. It's a group of 12 of various sizes. From what I can see there is no particular overly aggressive alpha they all seem pretty calm.
Whats the play here? Do I treat with fin rot medication or should I just cull? Would a tail this badly damaged even grow back. I have never had tiger barbs before so help appreciated.
Thought you guys might find it interesting to see how you can see the little eye balls in the eggs - recorded with samsung galaxy s20 and stick on 52mm macro adapter lens set.
For some reason here in the UK fish tank prices are absolutely insane, It seems like every store adds their own markup and even the glass panes sellers for anything thicker than 3mm is not even cost effective vs just getting the tank.
Image of my current setup which is progressing well but I want to build another rack or two. I have been buying the fish tanks from my local PetsAtHome which you can imagine are not cheap, its £20-£30 for the 7gallon ones up top and £80 for the 15 gallon in the middle. So If i wanted to replicate another tank (without the tortoise at the bottom but tanks instead) it would be £400+
Anyone here from the UK that has experience with sourcing cheap tanks? If you build your own tanks, how do you source the glass, and what thicknesses would you use? I have been looking at greenhouse glass which should be alright for a bunch of 5-7 gallon tanks.
In case someone mentions gumtree and the sort, picking up used tanks is all well and good but I don't drive and many of them are one off sizes which are hard to rack. so unless I get ridiculously lucky its not going to happen, I have been looking for a long time.
I am building the racks myself, from fairly cheap wood, so I can match the rack size to the tank but all the tanks should be fairly the same or fit in the 120cm wide profile exactly.
Input appreciated and thank you in advance!!
I am not interested in actually buying from anyone in the subreddit exclusively but ideas of where I can source the cheapest tanks....so i dont think i am breaking rule 7.
This is a bit of an odd post since I am not sure if am a beginner or not. I have always had Caridina shrimp and they have been good to me. I use RO water and bee shrimp GH+ on all my water changes.
The problem is I recently thought of getting some neo's introduced to my soft water tanks to mix it up, I bought 4 different types of neos which are, golden dreams, snow balls, greens jades and chocolates. Three of the breeds are doing great, they act and exhibit completely normal activity, the usual foraging and resting at the bottom of the tank. The chocolate ones though are going insane, for the last two days since I got them they are literally just driving themselves to exhaustion, some of them even collapsing for 2-3 minutes and then returning to zooming around. All four types have been drip acclimated over a few hours. I have tried to see how they do in other tanks that are already established and they just keep doing it. It's really bugging me and I don't want to lose them, none have died yet but sooner or later they probably will.
My question is has anyone else seen this before? From reading about Neocaridina they should totally be fine with near zero KH as long as GH and PH is in Range for them. To set up the tanks I used the same exact protocol which my Caridina shrimp do just fine in.
Could it potentially just that this chocolate neo branch is terrible at adjusting. Since the are others are totally fine.
My parameters are the usual for Caridina
6GH
0KH
7.1 PH
0 ammonia
0 nitrite
10-20 nitrate
105 TDS
First attempt at a little shrimp tank rack. The tanks up top (2 x 7 gallons and 3 x 5 gallons) should all end up as Caridinas once seasoned but that's still probably a few months from now. Still need to figure out what lighting to get or if I want to a top shelf or root only submerged plants.
The bottom tanks (15 gallon tanks) will get the harder neocaridina once they get seasoned too, will probably make them skittle tanks and see what colours they come out with. I just have guppies in there for the moment to keep me occupied.
Wish me luck guys because I will sure need it!
Bought some guppies from the pet shop, is this one deformed? Just above the head it has a bump. Does not look diseased but not a great swimmer, just sort of likes to hover and sometimes comes to the surface for snacks. Don't particular mind keeping it quarentine, would just prefer not to deformities to the gene pool in main tank.
