What a shotty shitty movie

Jane and Jackson were the worst written characters I have seen in such a high profile movie. Every ten minutes or so, I had to pause the movie to process how much they sucked the life out of anything the movie had going for it with their stupid actions and ridiculous motivations. I was on the verge of just turning it off completely every time, it's a mark of preserverance that I made it through to the end.

Jag har hittat ett nytt spel för oss här på r/ unket

Det heter Poke-mongo, tror man ska gå runt ute och blotta sig alternativt onanera på specifikt angivna platser eller något sånt. Är det någon som testat?

Vaush and protein

I am a dietitian, and I have a request. Can Vaush stop spreading blatant misinformation about nutrition?

No, plant protein and animal protein are not created equal. There's a thing called essential amino acids, amino acids are the building blocks of protein and essential means that we can't synthesize them ourselves so we have to get them pre-built from external sources, usually through the diet. There's nine of them and the percentage of the protein you consume that your body can actually utilize is limited by the lowest essential amino acid in relation to your intake need contained in said consumed protein.

Soy protein, pea protein and bean protein is a good way to source bulk protein, but the most effective way is to complement bulk plant protein with some animal protein in order to satisfy the body's essential amino acid needs, otherwise you will have to eat a lot more total grams of protein, which, unless we are talking isolate powders, for plant sources means a lot more grams of food. This concept is called protein quality, and any animal protein vs plant protein calculation that does not account for this and instead gives you a gram for gram comparison is lying to you.

This, taken together with other things like B12 and hem-iron deficiency, is the reason why the everyone should go vegan-arguments are straight up bullshit, specially when it comes to growing children and women who are prone to iron deficiency (same here, plant iron is barely usable). As soon as you start accounting for these things, and what you have to do in order to compensate for these factors in terms of supplementation, scaling that up to the entire population creates far more issues than it is worth.

Yes, our meat consumption should be lowered to whatever point where it can be done sustainably and ethically, both in terms of environmental impact and the treatment of animals. Everyone should move towards being mostly vegetarian with non-meat protein sources (like eggs), occasional meat and also start eating organs again to properly use the whole animal. This is specially as healthy adults, while children and people who are sick or recovering from injury or surgery need a lot more good quality protein. But thinking that everyone should go vegan is just as insane as thinking the solution to cronic health issues is to go carnivore.

I wouldn't mind his vegans are morally superior bit so much if he at least stopped spreading his ignorance. He has never substantiated his bs claim "nu-uh, protein is protein dawg, anything else is just a meat industry lie". I am 100% sure that he has been told this by a vegan he respects and just took at face value without looking into the science behind the claim about protein quality.

I know he meant morally when he said "we at least have to agree on what's right and what's wrong", and in essence, I agree with his point, but that is still infuriating to hear after he just casually dismissed scientific fact in order deflect criticism of his position.

Finally watched it, some initial impressions

Just watched it, and I was very pleasantly surprised. I think the movie has some real highlights where it very successfully builds up tension and suspense, and a really oppressive atmosphere. I think it is a very technically proficient movie in terms of lighting, set, shooting and all that jazz. It does, however, stumble a bit in between the highlights, with some stretches being just a bit too slow and not always managing to communicate the more technical aspects of what the main character is actually doing or attempting to achieve.

I'm mainly talking about the navigation scenes, which I can only assume made zero sense for people who aren't familiar with the game. I have played through the game several times and still found it kinda confusing to follow along at times, which, taken together with the slow pace and long stretches without dialogue made it very easy to start zoning out a bit in these parts.

The acting was overall a lot better than I expected, but it did get a bit hammy at times, with emotional swings feeling a bit sudden and overly emoted. I think some scenes (particularly the few face-to-face ones) could have benefitted from a bit more active camera work to hide some of the issues with the acting, rather than having a static camera linger on the actors face as they awkwardly transition from reading an emotionally charged line to then very obviously waiting for the other actor to deliver their line. At other times, though, I was deeply impressed by the more subtle acting moments, particularly in Marks solo scenes. The issues did not in any way ruin the movie for me, but I know people have different levels of sensitivity towards that kind of stuff.

The absolute highlight for me was the way they communicated the background story. I think they managed to strike a perfect balance of cluing the viewer in without exposition dumping, telling just enough to make it feel like there is an untold but very well fleshed out backstory and world behind the events we're watching, but leaving it mysterious enough to evoke a sense of curiosity and engage the imagination. In this sense, they really hit the nail on the head in terms of translating the source material into this medium.

Well, those are my initial thoughts immediately after the first viewing, but in conclusion, I am really happy that this movie got made, and I am extremely impressed by how actually good it turned out.
