ZC33S Issue with boost gone for the third time...

Hi everyone,

I have a 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport ZC33S 1.4 Boosterjet, manual gearbox, with around 110,000 km, and I’m having an issue with boost loss that comes back from time to time.

Basically, it has already happened 2 or 3 times: the turbo seems to produce much less boost, the car feels less torquey, almost as if the ECU is limiting boost. Each time, the issue eventually went back to normal after driving around 150 km on the highway, usually at a fairly high RPM, around 3000 to 4000 rpm.

History:

The first time, I had just bought the car. It had not been driven much for several months, and I had also driven quite far on reserve fuel. So I suspected poor fuel quality or old fuel.

The second time, I had filled it with supermarket RON95 fuel. The boost disappeared near a highway entrance. I think I did a full-throttle pull in 4th gear at around 60 km/h to accelerate up to 130 km/h, but I’m not 100% sure.

Recently, I filled it with supermarket RON98 fuel. Strangely, I felt like the engine management/VVT behavior had gone back to normal after around 1000 km where the car seemed to have normal boost, but not really the usual VVT behavior. But now, after about 3 days with this fuel, I lost boost again at the same place: highway entrance, 4th gear, full throttle.

So I’m not really sure what could be causing this. I generally drive the car quite hard. There has also been quite a lot of Sahara dust recently in my country, so I’m wondering if a dirty air filter or a sensor contamination could be involved.

It’s starting to bother me because I’ve only owned the car for around 8000 km, and I’ve already had this issue 3 times.

Do you have any ideas about possible causes?
