How does Hinduism view modern relationship models like polyamory, open marriages, and consensual nonmonogamy?

For context, I'm asking because several of my international friends brought this up during casual conversations. While I have a general idea of the answer, I'd like to better understand the Dharmic perspective and the core principles behind it.

So!

I have a sincere question and hope to learn from those who are knowledgeable about Hindu philosophy and scriptures.

How does Hinduism view modern relationship concepts such as,

Polygamy, Polyamory, Open marriages, Other forms of consensual non-monogamy

I'm interested in understanding this from a Hindu perspective rather than from a modern social or legal perspective.

Are there scriptural teachings, philosophical principles, or traditional commentaries that address these kinds of relationships?

If different Hindu sampradayas or schools have different views, I'd also be interested in learning about those differences.

I would appreciate answers that cite scriptures or traditional sources where possible.

Thank you for your time and for sharing your knowledge.

Meaningful intimacy or casual experiences:- which has been more fulfilling for you?

I'm curious how men see this from their own life experience. Do you find a smaller number of sexual partners with strong emotional connection to be more fulfilling, or has having more casual experiences without much emotional attachment been more rewarding for you? or has the emotional connection never really mattered to you as long as the sex was enjoyable? What shaped your perspective?

My German friend has lost hope. As someone new to situations like this, what else can I realistically do?

Hi everyone,

I'm from India, and one of my closest friends is from Germany. We know each other personally, although meeting is difficult because he's usually busy with work.

I'm also new to situations like this, so I honestly don't know how to handle it. He's also around seven years older than me, so sometimes I feel like I'm out of my depth.

Over the past few days, he's opened up about severe depression, past trauma, hospitalizations, therapy, and medication. He says he's tried everything, but nothing has helped long-term.

Without revealing too much about his personal life, I know he's experienced both mental and physical abuse, lost someone very close to him last year, and recently went through the end of a long-term relationship. I know these aren't the only reasons for his depression, but they've clearly made things even harder.

Recently, he's been saying things like:-

"I've lost the war with myself."

"I don't care if I wake up tomorrow."

"I'm not suicidal, but I wouldn't care if I died."

"There's nothing more I can do."

He insists he has no active suicide plan; he just feels emotionally exhausted and has accepted whatever happens.

I mostly listen, remind him I'm there for him, and try to offer hope without making unrealistic promises. He appreciates it, but often says he's already heard it all and has tried everything.

I know I can't fix his depression, but I also don't want to give up on him.

So I wanted to ask people familiar with Germany:-

Is there anything a friend can realistically do for someone who feels they've exhausted all treatment options?

Are there support services, peer groups, or other resources in Germany that I might not know about?

If someone says they're not suicidal but also says they don't care whether they live or die, how seriously would you take that?

I'm not looking for a way to "fix" him, just to understand whether there's anything more I can do as a friend, especially given the cultural differences.

I'd really appreciate any advice.

Hey I'm a student here in Bremen, I'm originally from India, I want to make friends here, I have a lot of hobbies, like Videos gaming(PC, PS5), board/card gaming. I go to the gym, I like to hike, I can sing and play musical keyboard, I want to learn violin and dance. I can cook, I know 4 languages, I'm learning German as my 5th language. With no pressure I want to connect with people, regardless of gender, ethnicity, background. I only care about you being a good human being! 🍻

M23, Looking for English-friendly gaming groups in Bremen

Hi everyone!

I'm new to Bremen and I'm looking for regular gaming groups to join. I'm mainly looking for a welcoming, social atmosphere where it's easy to make friends.

I enjoy both video games (Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, GTA, Spider-Man, simulation games, etc.) and board/card games like Uno, Dixit, Wizard, and similar games.

I'm fluent in English but don't speak German yet I'm currently as A2.

Are there any English-friendly gaming communities, board game cafés, Discord servers, or regular game nights that you'd recommend? I'd love to find a group that meets consistently so I can become a regular.

It would also be nice if the groups had a fairly mixed crowd rather than being almost entirely male.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Question for Germans, what's your opinion on "Dark"? Was it overrated for you?

Hi everyone,

I'm curious to hear what Germans think about Dark. It received a lot of international praise and is often considered one of the best TV series ever made. It was very popular in Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Italy, Poland, Spain, India, US, Turkey, etc.

I don't think any of my German friends have seen it, so I don't know, so I'm curious whether it's as popular in Germany as it is abroad. I want to hear your opinion, as it's considered one of the best series.

Did you enjoy it, or did you find it overrated? If you didn't like it, what didn't work for you, the story, the pacing, the complexity, or something else?

I'd love to hear both positive and negative opinions, especially from people who watched it when it first came out.

How many of you feel the loneliness?

So I wanna ask my fellow men! How many of you feel loneliness?

For context I'm a well socialized person with connection to different people, I currently live with my 2 friends who'll even die for me! But I still feel that I'm lonely, somehow!!😅

It might sound weird, but I have my parents who take care of me, I have friends but somehow I'm at the loneliest stage of my life! I feel the emptiness! I don't know the reason!

I want to know from you guys, what the reason might be? How you guys overcome it?

People in their early n mid 20s What hobbies are you guys into?

So for context I'm male 23, and doing my masters in Bremen! So here's a thing, I'm not German. I get bored here easily! I feel lonely even when I'm surrounded by people 😅😅(if that makes sense to you guys)

So I'm actively looking to spend my time in a productive way. I'm going to start volunteering but I think I'll have to find myself a hobby and an affordable one😂🥲

So I'd like to know about you guys so I can get to know more possibilities! Danke schön 🤘🏻

Student in Bremen looking for volunteering opportunities, English friendly if possible?

Hi everyone,

I'm a student here and would like to spend some of my free time doing volunteer work. I checked the German Red Cross, but most programs seem to be full-time commitments, which isn't possible alongside my studies.

My German is currently at A2 level, so I'm looking for opportunities that don't require fluent German. Does anyone know where I can find volunteer work for a few hours per week?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Food cooking suggestions for my German classmates

My German classmates are excited to try Indian food for the first time, and since not everyone eats non-veg, I’m planning to make Paneer Tikka Masala for 6 people 😊

I’ve cooked for my Indian friends before, but sometimes even they find my food a bit spicy 😅 So I’d really appreciate some advice on how to balance the spices for people who aren’t used to Indian spice levels.

Should I reduce chili powder completely? Focus more on flavor spices instead of heat? Any tips to make it authentic but still enjoyable for beginners would be super helpful!

How do internationals make friends in Bremen? + affordable music/dance classes

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to get a bit more socially active in Bremen and wanted to hear your suggestions.

My German is around A2 right now — I can understand more than I can speak — so I mostly use English in conversations. For other internationals or locals here: what’s the best way to meet people and build friendships in Bremen? Are there any communities, hobby groups, events, cafés, sports, language exchanges, etc. that you’d recommend?

I’m also interested in starting a creative hobby like violin, singing, or dancing. Ideally something beginner-friendly and affordable for a student budget.

Would love to hear your recommendations. Thanks :)
