Fried rice with cabbage, broccoli, yellow squash and edamame

I had a bunch of random leftovers, so I tossed them all together until hot, then fried up some leftover rice in soy sauce. With a giant steamed beet on the side. One of my favorite quick lunches.

Hostess, meds, and first ever beer score

I just grabbed whole bags from the place where things are Generally a Dollar because it was easier. And turns out, there were TONS of little Debbie cakes, and tons of random just barely or not yet expired meds in the bottom. I'll donate as much as I can.

crackers n snackers

Got a bunch of crackers which had been a lil smushed. The cookies were about two weeks expired but double wrapped inside and still soft. Most of this went to the lil free pantry. The mini guac and hummus cups were a very exciting find, we never pay for that kind of convenience haha plus a giant box of sausage croissant sandwiches, and a whole cheesecake!

Mug ideas?

The currency colonel had some goodies today. Old Easter baskets, four cases of mothers day mugs, and 3 cases of water. The waters were each missing a bottle or two but otherwise fine, we'll use those all summer.

Any ideas for the mugs besides donating? I don't want them to just end up in the trash again... there are 12 total, half say "best mom ever" half say "mama needs more coffee".

What do you do if you get caught?

Door opened while I'm reaching for some cheese, apparently they were mid toss and I didn't know... locked eyes, neither said anything I just beat it. There's still a good mine and more coming... do you risk going back? In an hour, two? it's dairy I don't want to wait too long in the heat... or do I just accept the loss and leave that spot alone for a while...? What would you do.

Dumpster stew

Used rescued tomatoes, onion, and celery to make a sauce. Chopped up two small steaks into cubes and another onion, browned in oil. Added two small diced zucchini and a yellow potato. The carrots and some red lentils, Italian seasoning and garlic salt were store bought. Simmer on low for an hour or three, with some free fifty fancy sourdough bread. Mmmm mmm. 😋

Random pickings

Random finds today: 3 1/2 gallons whole milk not expiring until the 16th, a dozen eggs, couple lunchables, one peach yogurt, a rotisserie chicken, unwrapped steaks (for my chickens don't worry). Oh and napkins, a knee warmer wrap, and lindt truffles 🤤

Tip for eggs

I've been noticing a trend that every 2 weeks or so, all the eggs expire on the same date so they dump BOATLOADS that day. If you go into a store, check egg expiration dates. Then check the dumpsters about 4-5 hours after opening, you might hit pay dirt.

Our chickens are producing like crazy and I still have dozens left from the last two case haul, so I only saved two dozen. Wish there was a way to anonymously redistribute.

Caught it pretty soon after a deli clean out, still cold. And this time there were several unwrapped completely sealed hunks along with the pre sliced stuff. Now I need to find a meat cutter haha

The dumpster gods are certainly smiling on me with timing lately. Yet again, I pull up, open the window, grab a few things. As I'm putting it in my car, I hear the door open and thunk thunk thunk.

Three boxes full of produce! Mostly tons of shredded lettuce, but I also got a Caesar kit. Not expiring until May 10? A box of tomatoes, many damage or rotting so I only took some. And then various onions and lemons and asparagus, only some of which I could reach (I left my grabber accidentally, and when I went back it was gone 😭😭😭 hoping it's helping a fellow dd'er now).

Oh and many avocados that were smushy and black, but I salvaged enough to make a good bowl of guac. Guess we're having a lot of salad the next few days, and the chickens will be happy for the fresh greens too.
