Tips for villages to visit in the Peak District

Hi!

I got so many amazing recs for hikes when I visit Peak District, starting tomorrow. Now I'm hoping for equally great suggestions for villages to visit. So, my reason for coming to the Peak District (partly) is doing research for a book I'm writing, a very scenic psychological thriller where nature and flowers and plants have almost their own characters. I'm staying in Buxton and I (most likely) won't be getting a car so places with reasonable public transport. I have a few places on my list already; Tideswell, Bakewell, Matlock Bath, Chatsworth House. But I don't want to miss any other little treassures, maybe they are on the way to some of the other places on my list or just places I don't want to miss out on.

I'm open for any suggestions but bonuspoints and possible gold stars for villages with any sort of tie-in or reputation for botany, flowers, plants, or anything related to the pre-Raphaelites (not limited to the famous male artists but even more so if it has any connection to the female artists and models - looking at you Elizabeth Siddal!).

Appreciate all your tips!

Hi!

I'll be visiting the Peak District in the beginning of July for 9 days, to do research for my book. The book is based mostly in Buxton but I want to make the most out of my time. I would love some tips from locals and those who have been there before! What's worth going, what to maybe skip, what to absolutely not miss and so on.

My main focus is Buxton but I'll also be making one daytrip to Chatsworth and one to Tideswell. Would love to do 1 or 2 hikes as I love to hike - maybe one dayhike and one shorter, so suggestions as to what to choose is welcome. Preferably on the not-hardest side of trails as I injured my foot a while back and will have to be mindful.

I'm open to all suggestions and tips for getting the full and not tourist-y Peak District experience ❤️

Hi!

Not sure if this is the right Reddit-group, so if not, feel free to point me in a better direction.

I'm writing a book, set in the Peak District (if important), and my main character is drawn into a police investigation to find a serial killer. She is asked to assist in the investigation because she has a very niche expertise about a subject that is central to the investigation and the killer. Now, I did some research and as I understand it the police do use civilian consultants but I was wondering if when they do, is that on an unpaid sort of volontary basis where they would keep their day-job? And how much access would a CC have - all the evidence, crimescenes, interrogations, arrests etc? Are they allowed to pursue leads and so on by themselves or would they always be partnered with/escorted by a police officer when doing anything related to the case?

I'm trying to get it as accurate as possible so any help is very much appreciated!
