What’s the story with the cars?

Was running the Edale skyline this morning and came across these destroyed cars, a turned over black cab and a burned out range? Anyone know the story with how these got there?

Buxton Pavilion's Ai usage

Both in person and on their social media, pavilion gardens have been using so much ai for marketing, menus and general signage.

It's incredibly disappointing. Especially how much the Peak District is struggling through global warming.

Tips for villages to visit in the Peak District

Hi!

I got so many amazing recs for hikes when I visit Peak District, starting tomorrow. Now I'm hoping for equally great suggestions for villages to visit. So, my reason for coming to the Peak District (partly) is doing research for a book I'm writing, a very scenic psychological thriller where nature and flowers and plants have almost their own characters. I'm staying in Buxton and I (most likely) won't be getting a car so places with reasonable public transport. I have a few places on my list already; Tideswell, Bakewell, Matlock Bath, Chatsworth House. But I don't want to miss any other little treassures, maybe they are on the way to some of the other places on my list or just places I don't want to miss out on.

I'm open for any suggestions but bonuspoints and possible gold stars for villages with any sort of tie-in or reputation for botany, flowers, plants, or anything related to the pre-Raphaelites (not limited to the famous male artists but even more so if it has any connection to the female artists and models - looking at you Elizabeth Siddal!).

Appreciate all your tips!

Kinder scout

Hello. I’m planning a day up Kinder Scout next week. I’ve been up Crowden Clough and William Clough previously.

I would appreciate some recommendations of which route to try next.

Many thanks.

Driving through Youlgrave, Derbyshire Peak District

Is it me, or is this place just the worst place to drive through? This is the village where my mother’s family all came from, and lived there for generations, however, I grew up 150 miles away south. I know the place well and spent many holidays there as a kid visiting family. I returned after a 3 year gap and bloody hell is it a death trap to drive through….

Alzheimer's Society Trek26 Peak District...shame about the litter

Even worse than people dropping litter is when events like Alzheimer's Society are arranged and they cannot be bothered to clean up their marked course...nothing better than leaving your plastic hanging in the trees long after the event. Please don't bother coming back.

Litter Bugs (Ashford in the Water Area)

Yep. It’s been bagged up why not just take it home with you. Was also lots of beer bottles near the river too. Very sad to see!

Wildfire in Peak District

I took these pictures thus morning, all I could see is a cloud of smoke like on the picture, couldn't see any flames. You can see that they tried to put it out with that helicopter

Cool map I found which shows the Peak District region (historically called Peakland or the Peak), of which the National Park covered most of when it was created in 1951 (defined by the yellow lines on the map). But there are large areas of the Peak District which are not in the National Park.

Is Chapel-en-le-frith a place that's worth visiting, or more a place that's good to live but not visit?

I've never been and I can get there on the train in about 1 hour so I was wondering if it's worth visiting.

Recommendations for Peak District w/ middle-aged couple?

Hi guys! I'm going to the Peak District in a few weeks with my husband and parents in law, who are respectively 63 and 70 and in good shape for their age. We'll be staying in Tideswell, arriving on Friday night and driving back to London on Sunday late afternoon.

I'm looking for recommendations for an easy hike with a good view (we could walk 2-2.5 hours max, including the way back), a good Sunday roast spot and any other spots we shouldn't miss.

Sunrise Walk

Hi everyone. I’m wanting to have a walk for the sunrise tomorrow (Thursday) potentially with my dog. Where can you guys recommend that take into consideration the following:
- 30ish minute walk from car to top.
- Somewhere parking will be fairly available (free or paid)
- Fairly easy walk, dog is 12 and I’m no hiker at all.
I know Mam Tor is highly recommended but I was wondering if there’s any other nice spots.

Does anyone know the name of this remote valley west of Howden Reservoir and north of Alport Dale? Has anyone walked in that area?

Dove Stone, Peak District, England

Difficulty of this trail: Hard

The route up was fairly straightforward, with a moderate gradient and no particularly technical sections. It was a steady climb and suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.

The descent, however, was a little more challenging. Some sections were covered with loose rocks, gravel and uneven ground, so good balance was definitely helpful. There were also a few points where I needed to use my hands for extra support. I would be especially careful if the ground is wet, as the loose surface could become slippery.

Apart from the slightly tricky descent, the route was well worth it. The scenery was beautiful throughout, with views over Dovestone Reservoir and the surrounding hills, as well as the famous Dove Stone itself.

I would recommend wearing proper hiking shoes and taking your time on the way down. A great route for anyone looking for something scenic with a little bit of challenge.

Mam Tor first time

Hey friends!

Visiting this weekend and planning to hike Mam Tor with my girlfriend and our two dogs. They're fit and used to long hikes, but given this heat we'll be taking it steady and keeping a close eye on them.

As it's our first time in the area, we're planning to walk the Castleton, Mam Tor and Great Ridge circular route.

Does anyone know if there are streams, rivers or any natural water along this route where the dogs can cool off and have a dip?

Really appreciate any local knowledge!

Thanks
