Why doesn’t psychological insight necessarily lead to behavioural or emotional change?

From a psychological science perspective, what explains the gap between understanding the causes and mechanisms behind one’s thoughts or behaviours and actually changing those thoughts or behaviours?

Are there established mechanisms that explain why increased self-awareness or insight sometimes fails to produce behavioural change, and can excessive self-focused attention or rumination interfere with that process?

Try not to get pulled into debates with minds you can’t change

You don’t have to correct everyone

Especially online, there will always be someone who has an opinion about ADHD..even when they know absolutely nothing about it. How could they? They wouldn’t be so ignorant if they did

It’s tempting to reply. To explain. To prove them wrong

But sometimes the best response is NO RESPONSE

You can’t change a mind that doesn’t want to be changed, and arguing with someone who only wants to argue will probably leave you feeling worse.

Protect your peace ❤️
