Looking for advice on a cheap second EV

We’re looking at picking up a second family car and I’m wondering what people think is the best-value used EV at the cheaper end of the market.

We already have an EV in the house, so range isn’t a massive concern. We also have solar, an EV charger at home, and I can charge at work, so running costs should be very low.

This car would mainly be used for school runs, local trips and general short-distance driving rather than long motorway journeys.

I’ve been looking at things like the VW e-Golf, Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Ioniq, Renault Zoe etc. The e-Golf appeals to me because it’s basically a normal Golf, but asking prices seem a bit optimistic given how long some of them have been sitting for sale.

Ideally I’m looking for something around the €6k–€10k range, reliable, reasonably practical with kids and unlikely to throw up a massive battery-related bill.
What would you buy in that price range? Anything you’d specifically avoid?

Also interested in what people think these older EVs are actually selling for, rather than the advertised prices.

She's settling in just fine.

It's been a month, and Roisin is settling just fine. Can't believe how quickly she's mastering basic commands. Next up: a trip to the groomers!

Audi A3 2012 dilemma

How ya folks,

I have a dilemma with the wife's car. I recently had an accident where the passenger side headlight and bracket broke. I ended up replacing those parts, but these faults have come up on the dash. I've checked all sensors, etc., and everything appears fine.

Will a diagnostic tool be able to clear these, or is there an appetite to sell as is, obviously at a discount?

I just don't have the time to chase after it.

Meet Róisín ☘️💚

First night home with our 3-month-old Miniature Schnauzer, Róisín. She seems very confident but quite clingy (which I know is normal).

We’ve her set up in the kitchen tonight with brown noise playing and she seems to be settling well.

Would love any advice from experienced Mini Schnauzer owners, especially around the first week, separation training, barking, grooming, and anything you wish you knew early on.

Roberto Pico Lopes Appreciation Post

Fair play to Cape Verde. Knocked out by Argentina, but what a World Cup run.

A country of just over half a million people going toe-to-toe on the biggest stage and giving everyone a proper game, that’s something special.

And for us in Ireland, seeing Pico Lopes, a lad from Crumlin, go from the League of Ireland to the World Cup is some achievement.

They’ve done themselves proud!

Solis Inverter and Weco Battery

Hi All,

I had my solar installed yesterday, and I'm currently waiting for the final commissioning to be completed. There's a communication issue with our Weco battery, and I've been informed that this can happen. Solis is expected to send out an update to fix it. Is this a common situation?
