Toyota VSA - Question about how it works

Hi Toyota family, it's a rough time being a Toyota owner right now with all the recalls. Obviously pretty much every auto-manufacturer is having recalls as standard operating procedure at this point though.

I am one of the unfortunate individuals who picked up Toyota Sequoia with the V35A engine a couple years ago. I am still under my 3/36 and recently have started seeing Sequoia's coming up with blown engines. Since I use mine to tow the chance that the engine goes bad is fairly real. This isn't meant to be a doom and gloom post, but I have a genuine question..

Since the replacement engines are also failing, can anyone confirm that under the Platinum VSA, Toyota will replace as many engines as is required during the coverage period? I've read that with the Tundra's some people are on their 3rd engine already, and while that's a Tundra I just wanted to confirm.

Considering Robot lawnmower to replace my service

I have roughly .5 acre to mow, and wanted help to determine if this year is the year I replace the service with an automated mower.

Few starting details

  • I wanted to wait until I did not need a wire
  • I live in a neighborhood, street in front, neighbors to the side, backyard fully fenced in
  • I have fescue grass; and a whole boatload of weeds!
  • I am aware that even with the mower I would need to take care of the edges/edging around the cement, no issues with this whatsoever

Some of my immediate questions..

  1. For those who've been using them for a few years, how often do the batteries need replacement and how much do they cost? I figure the batteries are proprietary and likely part of their profit strategy.
  2. Can the lawn mower stay outside, are they safe from rain or does it need housing/to be brought in?
  3. Are there any unexpected costs?
  4. Are these really "set and forget"?
  5. Does it ever struggle with "tall" grass?

There are a lot of brands... I see dozens and dozens of brands, and some of them legitimately look like rebranded mowers from a manufacturer, with some brands actually having almost the same mower with different colors. I could careless who I buy from but was hoping folks could share some brands that are worth looking into. I've found a couple brands but want to make sure I have the full list.

Any other inputs are welcome - I am looking to pull the trigger soon if I am going this route!
