Rude UK Border Force Staff at Amsterdam UK Terminal
A complaint rant,
Not the first time I travelled from there and experienced an UK Border Force worker who presented himself like he hates his job, but this time was worse.
I walked up after passing through Dutch Douane without issues, and was asked the reason for my stay which I answered with “roughly longer than a week”, it immediately turned into a very derogatory lecture session from this man who found me to be vague.
I ended up getting in an argument with him over this and the fact that when he asked follow-up questions he listened to only two words I said then just respectlessly talked over me with a loud voice, I in frustration told him we’re in the Netherlands and he needs to be more polite and understanding (english is not my first language and different social norms here), in the end his female colleague next to him joined in, loudly shouted at me, and she looked and sounded absolutely like she had a mental breakdown in that moment (ranted about not feeling welcome here, how american customs treated passengers, and other stuff i didn’t understand) I had never seen such an unprofessional and strange thing before.
I was detained for a little bit due to this argument but was later allowed on the Eurostar regardless.
It was an unpleasant and dehumanizing experience, and the Border Force guards were not de-escalatory at all, they felt very power-trippy and rude and continued to threaten to not let me pass through while I told them to be more polite and to behave themselves, not okay.
I was however still co-operative and tried to answer all they wanted from me without issues, as difficult as it was because listening was definitely something they didn’t do…
(I’m Dutch and have diagnosed Autism and they didn’t give me any time to think or answer back on their questions, seriously rude and inconsiderate)
