Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like Birkenstocks aren’t quite the same value they used to be.

I still really like them and own several pairs, but with some models now easily costing €120–150+, I find myself questioning the pricing more and more. Some of my older pairs somehow felt a little more substantial too, although that might just be nostalgia.

I’ve also wondered whether anything changed after the company changed ownership a few years ago and started moving more into the premium/luxury direction.

I still buy them because I can usually get them through a friend’s employee discount, which makes the price a lot easier to justify. At those prices, I still think they’re absolutely worth it. But honestly, if I had to pay full retail every time, I’d probably own a lot fewer pairs.

Anyone here who’s been wearing Birkenstocks for a long time noticed something similar? Do you think the quality has actually changed, or have the prices just reached a point where we naturally expect more?

Ich (M32) habe meine Freundin (W31) sind seit 9 Jahren zusammen. Heute habe ich sie am späten Abend vom Flughafen abgeholt. Zuhause habe ich aus den noch vorhandenen Resten vorher einen einfachen Nudelsalat gemacht, da nicht mehr viel da war.

Als sie den Salat probiert hat, hat sie direkt sehr negativ reagiert. Sie meinte unter anderem „Was ist das denn?“, dass ihr der Appetit vergangen sei und hat sich darüber beschwert, dass zu wenig drin sei. Außerdem kam die Aussage, ob ich das selbst überhaupt essen würde und meinte noch, dass ich es ja sonst immer so lecker hinkriege. Oft mache ich das aber nicht.

Ich meine ja, dort waren keine Zwiebeln und kein Knoblauch drin, weil wir eigentlich um diese späte Uhrzeit solche schwerverdaulichen Sachen nicht essen.

Ich bin auch kein besonders guter Koch und es war wirklich nur eine einfache Notlösung, trotzdem hat mich die Art der Reaktion verletzt, da ich mir Mühe gegeben habe.

Im Verlauf hat sie dann noch weitere Aussagen gemacht wie:

- dass sie mich nicht vermisst habe
- dass sie lieber mit einem „Griechen durchgebrannt“ wäre
- und dass ihre Aussage vorher, dass sie mich vermisst, gelogen gewesen sei

Das Ganze ist ohne vorherigen Streit passiert.

Mich hat das emotional ziemlich getroffen, weil ich die Aussagen sehr abwertend und respektlos empfand, obwohl ich mich gefreut habe, sie wiederzusehen und mir Mühe gegeben habe.

Ich frage mich jetzt, ob meine Reaktion darauf übertrieben ist oder ob andere das ebenfalls als verletzend und unangemessen empfinden würden.
