Guys I'm finally thinking of opting out of this rat race

So, I've posted multiple times in this sub regarding how I didn't feel good about the gate prep and all.

Long story short, I'm considering quitting this prep and looking for a job instead.

I (22f) come from a middle class family and I'm the only child to my parents . I've always dreamt of retiring my parents and making myself financially stable . But I couldn't get a job coz I wasn't skilled + there weren't many campus placements in my clg. So i joined an offline coaching for gate around 2 months ago, but i never felt really motivated , even if I did it lasted only a day or so. After going to the coaching class for 2-4 days I'd feel really anxious , idk what it was, I still don't really know and I'd skip the next 2 days. This continued for these 2 months, I may have attended only 1 month or at max 40 days.

I thought it was coz I had no friends , so I made a few but still something didn't feel right . Now its making me think that gate or in general competitive exams aren't for me. Coz this gate prep reminds me of the jee trauma . I understand concepts and all but just unable to get the interest to study.

So I'm finally deciding to open up to my parents and tell them about this. I probably will get told about how I wasted all their money ( 50k+) ,but I think this is the right decision.

Just wanted to put this out , anyone who has gone through something similar pls put your story in the comments or dm, I'd love to talk

Rethinking my life choices, GATE vs job prep/hunt.

I'm a recent BTech CSE grad and I've been preparing for GATE through offline coaching for around 1–2 months. Honestly, I'm struggling badly with it.

I attend for 2–3 days, then skip a few. Even when I force myself to go, after 3–4 hours I start feeling really anxious/overwhelmed idk why and just don't feel like studying anymore. I understand what is being taught, but I don't enjoy the studying process at all.

At first I thought it was because I don't have friends at coaching and feel kinda out of place there. I've tried talking to a few people, but it hasn't really changed how I feel.

My main reason for wanting GATE was getting into an IIT for MTech and hopefully getting a good placement afterward.

So now I'm thinking maybe I should quit GATE and spend the next 6 months seriously preparing for jobs instead. But I'm scared that I'll get a job and hate that too, or regret quitting GATE later.

I'm honestly confused about whether I'm just avoiding something difficult or whether GATE genuinely isn't for me.

Tbh idk what my problem is. If i could figure it out I wouldn't be asking for your help. I really thought gate would the best option, it probably is, but idk if i should give it when I am just unable to, feels like I'm wasting my time. Also I've paid a lot for this so I'd feel guilty for that too if i quit .

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you decide between continuing GATE/higher studies and just getting a job? And if you chose the job route, did working actually help you figure out what you wanted?

Okayy so this might sound childish or immature but I'm genuinely rethinking my life choices

Ik I'll most probably get downvoated but plz help if u can

So, I’m from a Tier-3 college and graduated in 2026. I couldn’t get placed because there weren’t many opportunities, and due to skill issue.

I joined GATE prep about a month ago, but honestly, I’m not really getting into it. I attend the lectures, but I’m barely practicing and I’m struggling to study consistently.

So I’m confused about what to do now. I have 2 options:

Quit GATE prep and focus on upskilling + applying for off-campus jobs.

Give GATE 2027 a serious shot (aiming for IIT Hyderabad). I’m from the General category.

What do you guys think would be the better choice in my situation?

Also is it possible to get IITH with 6 months of prep if I start from scratch ?

[IWantOut] 23M CS Graduate India -> Germany/Australia/Canada/UK/USA

Background

Citizenship: Indian

Age: 23

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science

Work experience: 0 years / fresh graduate

Current location: India

Languages: English; willing to learn another language if necessary

What I'm looking for

I'm looking to move abroad primarily for a career in software/tech, with the eventual goal of obtaining permanent residency and citizenship.

I'm currently considering:

🇩🇪 Germany

🇦🇺 Australia

🇨🇦 Canada

🇬🇧 UK

🇺🇸 USA

I'm also open to other countries that may be a better fit.

Priorities

In roughly this order:

Realistic pathway to permanent residency

Strong software/CS job market

Good long-term earning potential

Reasonable cost of living

Quality of life

Stable and predictable immigration policies

Clear pathway to citizenship

I'm not necessarily looking for the country with the highest salary. I'm more interested in the best overall option for an Indian CS graduate who wants to build a long-term life abroad.

What I'd like to know

For people who have gone through this process, which country would you choose in 2026 given my profile, and why?

I'd particularly appreciate answers from Indians or other immigrants who have actually moved abroad and can comment on:

How realistic it is to get a tech/software job as an immigrant

The difficulty and timeline of getting PR

Taxes and cost of living

Career growth and salaries

Long-term immigration prospects

Overall quality of life

Other considerations

I'm also Muslim, so I'd appreciate perspectives on:

Religious freedom

Availability of halal food and mosques

Size and accessibility of Muslim communities

Experiences with discrimination or cultural integration

How welcoming the country is toward immigrants

I'm open to countries beyond the ones I've listed, so if you think I'm overlooking a better option, please suggest it and explain why.

Thanks!
