Introducing HD to people you just met to get to know them faster

So this is sort of a two part question:

  1. What are your thoughts on using HD to quickly get to know someone you just met but might want to become closer with?

  2. How do you like to intentionally introduce/bring up HD with people, especially people you don't know all that well?

Many threads, one rope

Started playing recently and I picked up the Menders early on when playing the Utopia Builder. Between the construction cost reduction, everlasting resource outposts, extra food/goods, and extra level of housing insulation, they feel like one of the best factions.

I haven't spent that much time with the other factions as a result, can anyone summarize/sell me on them?

Did novels originally published chapter by chapter in periodicals (such as The Count of Monte Cristo) get affected by 'fan feedback' in the same way that modern TV shows often do?

How would the casual drug use of Edmond Dantes (The Count of Monte Cristo) have been viewed in the era the book was set/published?

In the book he regularly indulges in, or talks about indulging in, the use of opiates to help him sleep, or hashish for a mental escape. A modern reading of the book might see this as a red flag for his character's mental/emotional state, but the characters in the book, at least, don't seem bothered by it.

Messaging someone when you sent the last message

This always felt weird to me. Like, I sent the last message(s) in the previous conversation we were having, and now it's been a few days/weeks and I want to check in, but my last message was never got a reply and I don't want to come across in a weird/needy/insecure way. What's appropriate/normal in this sort of situation?
