Did you know 3 continents have names from Phoenician language/mythology

-Asia is thought to come from a word meaning “east” or “sunrise,”

-Europe might come from a word meaning “west” or “sunset.”or from the Phoenician princess named Europa from Greek mythology.

-Africa might come from the Phoenician word “afar” meaning “dust”

It’s really unfortunate that our ancient history isn’t focused on as much as it should in our history curriculum, considering how impactful it was on world history

In your opinion does a Lebanese “culture” exist?

Yes we’ve had a long history but in the 120+ years since the 1920 proclamation of greater Lebanon do you a culture specific to Lebanon has formed/flourished? or do you think our culture is just a culmination of the broader arab culture developing alongside it (which lebanon greatly contributed to).

Roman and greek culture is just more part of Lebanese/levantine heritage than it is for so many western nations

Im tired of this colonial idea that the Greeks and romans were just a distant blur and didn’t shape and change how our ancestors lived and believed. Just Because later European nations and notably America believed themselves as the true continuation of athenian and romans civilization because they believed they represent their ideals (namely democracy) so now they were entitled to that culture is an idea im sick of hearing.

We have this general Idea that Israel is this rich utopia thanks to their suger daddy the USA but generally poverty in israel is a big issue
For comparison Israels poverty rate is currently at 21% (according to the 2024 National Insurance Institute) meanwhile in Lebanon 2012 it was 14% (obviously now its skyrocketed to above 60%)

My point isnt to say Labanon is richer than Israel its not. However Israelis is clearly poorer in basic levels of humanity and empathy but thats already vast majority of places.

1 in 4 children live under poverty (according to the times of Israel) and around 28.1% suffer from food insecurity, this doesnt include Palestinians!! (however it does explain why they have such an animosity towards food aid)

Not to mention Israels racist defacto caste system where the lowest caste (arabs) poverty is around 57% (washingtonjewishweek- the article i got this from also complained that the lack of funds from USAID was a big contributor to this lol)

Theres alot more to say but I think sharing information like this despells the Idea that the settler colony is well established and every city and town is as developed as dubai when the reality is a grim mix of poverty, hierarchy, and instability.

I left out some of the Hellenistic states because it was messy, and also started at Canaan although it does go back even further.

They’ve become reclusive (understandably) I want to offer my support but dont know how to go about it.

someone having their childhood village vaporized should not be something anyone in this world has to endure.

Why our country ? i know were a population with issues but were just as shitty as every other nation (arguably some are shittier). we dont deserve this.

Unfortunately when it comes to hezb you cant really criticize them on live tv most of the time, but considering how people still bash everyone online you cant still say what you want

There also isn’t any social media censorship like in Iran or turkey

Or any Government Spyware like in the Israeli regime

Nor whatever the hell is happening in the gulf and Egypt, apparently its illegal to speak badly about dubai. Imagine that type of policy is beirut lol
