Yeah guys, this was mostly just an excuse to post these screenshots because I liked them. But seriously, by the end of tournament fights everything is absolutely covered in blood, way more than what I usually see in actual large-scale battles.
My character's name is Kasper, a name I've been using since forever whenever I needed a placeholder name for gaming. It goes all the way back to when I first played Golden Sun ages ago.
Later I moved on to games with character creators, and I'd always just pick medium-length brown hair because it felt like his own thing rather than a self-insert. That's kind of the point, I don't self-insert into games that let you customize a character, Kasper is the one who does that for me instead.
Since I always used him as my go-to "blank slot" character, it felt natural to make him the protagonist of a visual novel I'm working on. To keep myself motivated I started commissioning art of him, usually drawn as a high schooler.
That's when the "Wow, he looks just like Kris from Deltarune!" comments started rolling in, which wasn't helped by both names starting with K, haha. Honestly I don't mind, and it's actually how I discovered that game, which ended up becoming one of my favorites. But those comments still come up pretty much every time I post him somewhere.
From what I understand, Kris is intentionally designed to be somewhat generic and easy to project onto, similar to the previous Undertale protagonist. To be clear though, I know Kris is their own character, separate from the player's soul. The "generic" design is deliberate, meant to subvert the trope of the blank-slate self-insert while also leaving their gender ambiguous. And I won't pretend Kasper is super visually distinctive either, he was born from really old and basic character creators after all. With millions of people out there creating their own characters, I know it's inevitable that OCs end up resembling each other, so I get it.
At some point I just started letting those comments slide, but I'm curious, has anyone else dealt with something like this? How do you handle it?
Veteran Warband player here. Fuck the main quest, fuck the lords, fuck vassalage, and fuck managing clans. I just want massive battles, goddammit, and I want to WIN them.
And before anyone says "bruh just do custom battles", obviously I still want that sense of progression. Starting with absolutely nothing, zero, and then grinding my way up to a better sword, better armor, a proper horse, all that shit. I want the snowball. Start small, scrape by, and slowly build up to commanding absolute chaos on the battlefield.
That's it. That's all I want from this game. How do I do that without drowning in kingdom politics and clan drama I couldn't give less of a shit about?
Also totally open to mods. If there's anything out there that automates or speeds up the management/diplomacy bullshit so I can spend more time actually fighting, I'm all ears. Hit me with your recommendations.
Kasper and Lyris started as a way to process some old feelings. He's a human who grew up without a safe place, she's a wolverine girl who spent years convincing herself she was better off alone. Nothing fancy, just two characters I care about, and Bored_reshi absolutely nailed them here.
An image idea I had for my OCs, a guy named Kasper and a wolverine girl named Lyris. Gotta keep the HMOFA agenda going. The artwork was commissioned from the artist Bored_Reshi.
Two examples came to mind and now I’m wondering if anyone can think of more lol. Sorry if I don’t quote the conversations perfectly, I watched these movies dubbed in Spanish.
Shrek
When Donkey and Shrek arrive at Lord Farquaad’s ridiculously tall castle, Donkey says something like “That’s a big castle,” and Shrek replies, “Think he’s compensating for something?” while Donkey completely misses the joke. Maybe younger kids assume he’s talking about Farquaad’s height, but since Shrek hasn’t even seen him yet, and because of the way he says it, he’s pretty obviously implying something else.
Hotel Transylvania
The werewolf pulls down the Invisible Man’s swimsuit, and he immediately yells, “I just got out of the water… and it was cold! Don’t judge me!” before running away.
The entire budget went into lemons and beer. There was nothing left for salt or merkén.
I own the characters, this piece was commissioned from the incredibly talented artist Bored_Reshi.
Hi everyone. This game holds a special place in my heart because of the incredible world it created, the atmosphere, and its neon lights. So a while ago I commissioned Duzzu19 to bring my pets into that setting. She hadn’t played the game before, but while researching it for the piece, she ended up falling in love with it too, and you can really tell from the level of detail she put into her work. Anyway, I’m sharing it because I genuinely loved what she created.
