Does anyone have a strawberry basil jam recipe they really like?
I just got this canvas from Spellbound Stitchery and I want to color swap the brown for bright pink and make the background more of an ivory. I'm planning to finish it as a pillow. I originally had assumed it was 18 mesh and was going to use pepper pot but I just double checked and realized it's 13
I've watched a bunch of videos about self-finishing a pillow and as a very experienced sewist, I feel pretty confident I can do it (I hope!). I was wondering if anyone put stabilizer or some sort of fabric glue on the back of the canvas to kind of "lock in" the threads so they don't snag or pull out? I've seen people who do bead embroidery do this and thought it might be a good idea.
Am I crazy or is the stranded embroidery thread much more pleasant to work with? Am I missing something or tips to make it more comfortable to work with?
Does anyone know of printmaking classes in Westchester for the fall? I know they used to offer them at Pelham Arts Center, but it doesn't look like they do anymore
Is stitching in hand really so uncommon? I was at a LNS the other day and took out a canvas I had been working on in hand, and I got looked at like I was nuts! I picked up needlepoint because I wanted a portable hobby, and didn't even realize I was "supposed" to use stretcher bars at first. I just block the hell out of my canvases and they all turn out fine.
I'm heading to Paris next week and would love to check out needlepoint stores there! I have a list of places from google, but would love to hear if anyone has personal experiences and places they loved!
I'm also going to Bayeux, which is famous for its tapestry, so I'm planning to check out some fiber stores there as well
I'm looking for a thrift store for picture frames, preferably in southern Westchester, to use to frame some needlepoint projects!
I should start by saying I live up in Westchester in a town that takes its Historical Preservation Committee VERY seriously and has a very active local FB group. The Balusters was just the perfect representation of everything that goes on here, down to fights over people putting doggy poop bags in other people's trash cans! I couldn't stop laughing. I'll definitely be recommending it on my local FB group (at least to people who have a good sense of humor about the town).
