Check out my new mod: First Pick and Era Stopper - Nation Difficulty

Ever wanted to be the first to pick a new nation and decide when the new era is started, but with a higher difficulty than Hamlet or Town?

Well now you can with my new mod! The mod uses the "Town" AI settings but gives the AI "Nation" difficulty bonuses to Food, Production, Money, Influence and Faith. Additionally the AI gets a catch-up amount of science, if behind in technology. If you want you can even wait until every AI has caught up in science before advancing to the next era.

Enjoy:

I made a small mod that allows you to pick the cultures first and control when the AI enters the new Era with you. I am happy to get some feedback wheyher anyone is interested in a public version on the steam workshop.

I made a mod that allows you yo pick the first culture and control when a new era begins. Usually this restriction is available in the game difficulties "Hamlet" and "Town". However those games felt a bit too easy and the ai could never really keep up so I tried to modify the difficulty settings. The problem is that the AI restrictions of not being able to pick a culture before you are tied to the deeper Ai behavior mechancis that can't be modified by the modding tools provided (it was planned to add these but the new modding tools were sadly never released by Amplitude).

So instead i took the " Town" difficulty and changed the bonuses for human players, Ai factions and minor empires to the "Nation" difficulty. This means the Ai gets bonuses to their base yields (food, production, influence and faith) as well as extra science when falling behind, BUT the ai will still be forced to pick a culture after you and will also be less aggressive than normally, or in amplitudes words "Make some effort towards avoiding wars."

This is a workaround but in my games the AI still remains a threat with the game difficulty bonuses from "Nation" and still declares wars but it allows you to set the pace of the game by deciding when the AI is allowed to pick a new culture and enter a new era with you.

The mod works fine and I was wondering if there is some interest for this kind of mod, if so i will publish it to the steam workshop.

Pet Peeve: The game gets way to noisy with all of the vfx effects

Really wish there was an option to disable the majority of visual effects like shields, anomalies, dust etc.

It looks really pretty but if every single tile has some sparks, smoke or other effects it gets a bit annoying really quick. Especially when the effects start to overlap with the white fog that forms in a distance it gets super bad with visual clarity and you have to constantly move the camera around to see stuff right infront of you
