Observations as a permanently single woman in Ireland
I wanted to make this post to get some perspective and to see if other single people felt the same.
As the title suggests, I've been single my entire life. I'm in my early 30s and I've never had a relationship last longer than a few months. I'm social and have lots of friends but over the past year to 18 months no matter how many friends I have the partner shaped hole cannot be filled.
As you get into adulthood and more and more people couple up, friends become less of a priority. I'm not saying that people are bad friends but no matter how good of a friend you might be, you'll always be second fiddle to someone's partner. If you've been single forever and you're one of the only single people you know, this becomes extremely isolating.
Anytime you go to make plans you need to make the plans weeks/months in advance, the days of casual meetups are pretty much gone because that time is allocated to partners. This means you spend a huge amount of time alone. You travel alone, you grocery shop alone, you go to the cinema alone, you cook alone, you DIY alone etc etc.
This post is not meant to sound like I'm having a go at couples, because I'm not at all. I've just begun to realise recently how much my life could completely improve if I got a partner, in fact it's become the singular goal for me for the next year, as sad as that might sound to some people.
Other single people of Ireland, how do you feel about this?
