Justin is turning 38 this year and will be around 39 by the time he fights again. That’s not just old, it’s pretty much ancient by lightweight standards.

Yes, fighters can decline drastically within a year. We’ve seen it over and over again.

Look at Tony Ferguson. Look at how dominant he was before he fought Justin. He did the exact same thing to Cerrone that Justin later did to Topuria, and then Justin did the exact same thing to Tony. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

It would take months for Justin’s liver to actually start repairing the damaged tissue, but the thing is that Justin was effectively paralyzed by that shot. With a liver shot like that, it takes a long time to be able to stand up again, and Topuria did a great job ensuring that.
