This happened during the communistic october revolution in Asturias, in 1934, by a self-proclaimed "red army" armed by the UGT trade union (owned by the Spanish Socialist Workers Party, PSOE)

That night of October, the eight brothers from the Christian Schools of Turón, along with a Passionist priest, were brutally murdered by socialist militiamen—the Martyrs of Turón.

Earlier, the socialist militiamen had dug the mass graves where they were to be shot.

One by one, they fell into the grave under the indiscriminate gunfire of the militiamen.

A few days earlier, on the night of October 5, the militiamen had gone to their homes to take them to the town’s Socialist People’s House.

There they were held captive and abused for several days, along with other clergymen and people whom the militiamen presumed to be “right-wing,” including the distinguished Asturian engineer Rafael Riego, who was also brutally murdered days later.

Clergymen, Civil Guard officers, and people who, merely on suspicion of having right-wing leanings, would become the scapegoats of brutal persecutions and murders in a coup that, in just two weeks, would claim the lives of nearly 1,500 Spaniards.

That same day, Indalecio Prieto’s son and other Socialist leaders involved in the coup were arrested. Prieto’s son put up a fight, as the newspaper clipping illustrates.

Not so his father, Indalecio, who—like other Socialist instigators of the coup—had fled in a hurry, leaving behind those who carried out the orders of the PSOE leaders.

In Prieto’s case, he would take up residence in a luxurious Parisian hotel.
