IIT-JAM/GATE/CUET-PG

Hi everyone,

Happy to say I'm restarting university this August after a health break!

I'm looking for advice about preparation for the JAM and GATE... I don't know much about the JAM and related exams.

After graduating, will either target a Chem Engg master or an Industrial/Pharma chemistry Master. I know I'm super early, have three years to go, but I'd appreciate feedback about the entrance test difficulty and modes of preparation.

Are there any classes I can attend to prepare like Physics wallah? Also, is there a GPA requirement?

How does the CUET PG compare?

Road rage targeting airport traveler

So I was on the road coming from Pune airport with my luggage bag. The pavement on the way from the airport is broken and damaged so I got off the pavement and was walking on the side of the road. I went around a parked car and another car was pulling up into the space behind the parked car which is where I was walking.

The driver of the parking car refused to stop for me even when I made hand gestures. I know I shouldn't have, but I flipped the driver off.

I kept going by foot, and five minutes later, the driver and female passengers ran upto me and started hurling abuses at me. The driver came within two inches of my face and raised his fist towards me. I told him a little angrily that he didn't stop for me even though I had nowhere else to walk with a backpack and a piece of luggage. He threatened to hit me and raised his fist again, another passerby came in between us and pushed him away.

As far as I can tell, that driver was in a bad mood and wanted to start a fight with me.

I admit I should'nt have given the driver the bird, but it genuinely felt like he was going to push me off the road with his car, my body, luggage and all.

Not sure why road rage is the preference these days.

In-law used to breat-feed in public, classmates commented

So my cousin and his wife are American and they used to live in Chennai, and their young twin children are special needs. They used to breastfeed till the age of 2.5 years. My white (cousin?-)in-law used to breastfeed her children without any covering in restaurants and in public.

My then-classmates began referring to me and my family as the "crazy family" and there really wasn't anything I could do about it. Some of us used to have the fits(not seizures) and this made us scapegoats in the community.

Shortly after the public breastfeeding started, I started getting beaten up in and around my community. Edit: I've also been surrounded by mobs, including once by children who threatened me with sticks when I made an offhand comment about politics. Further edit: I've had strangers in my house, notes slipped under my door for my mother, and have been grabbed in convenience stores in my neighborhood as a youth.

The therapists in my community have shown utter disregard for what I'm going through and have on occassion refused to provide counseling. This mistreatment has gone on even after cousin along with wife and twins moved back to the US.

I've seriously considered moving to a more progressive city like Mumbai or Pune to avoid the ostracisation and physical abuse.

Full disclosure : I like the north Indian political system and feel more at home outside Tamil Nadu, I've lived in the Anglosphere and visited Asia as well : East Asia is worse than Chennai imo in terms of inclusivity and support for bullying.

Do you think moving is a good thing in my case?

So I've been around India and the west quite a bunch and my observation is as follows:

It's very hard to find meaningful therapy in Chennai compared to the US or other Tier 1 cities in India. Therapists here don't listen and don't seem to want to put in the effort to care, further to which, they often characterize themselves as extremely busy or even charge extra fees compared to other regular clients while doing a new intake.

Hospitals gatekeep their psychiatrists who are their main clients, and also rescehdule appointments at the last minute with the doctors they do have available, and these doctors tend to overprescribe medications to drive their patients away. Doctors with private clinics often take money from hospitals to treat the same patients at their private clinics of they don't want them there.

Just something I've observed in the Chennai healthcare system in general. Complete lack of willignness to care and to provide accountability in the private sector.

Edit: found a good doctor, not much luck with therapists though
