Pune's Fashion Street is built over a lost heritage British Graveyard - A protected National Monument, that has officially declared missing since 2006

Most of us have been to Fashion Street at Pune Camp. Bought something there. Haggled there.

We've been shopping on a graveyard.

The East Street Cemetery - 231 graves, Protected National Monument since 1909, same legal status as the Taj Mahal - is officially listed as untraceable by the ASI since 2006. It didn't disappear. It became our favourite shopping market.

While going through an old book about Poona Cantonment, I found this 1879 map. Right where Fashion Street stands today - a trapezoid plot labelled "Old Burial Ground."

Published authors with their own Wikipedia pages are buried here. An author whom William Wordsworth called one of the finest minds he ever knew. India's first woman newspaper editor. The former Mayor and Sheriff of Bombay. A soldier who took Tipu Sultan's ring and hair at his last battle. An infant whose brother translated the English version of Kama Sutra for the world. All buried here.

After 1947, the British left and this graveyard was eventually forgotten. By the 1990s, the graves were cleared and this was used a car parking named Kamble Maidan. In 1997 the Pune Cantonment Board moved hawkers there. Fashion Street was born. Directly on top of it.

This story got 200K views and 1,000+ upvotes on r/IndianHistory last week. But honestly - r/Pune was the audience this was always meant for.

Covered by PunekarNews - video interview and full article in the comments. If you are interested in reading about the detailed history, link to the research heritage blog also mentioned below.

Does anybody know anything about this abandoned car in Erandwane?

I was visiting a friend this week and found this old abandoned car near Nal Stop Metro Station in Erandwane. It got me really curious, so I started digging into it.

With help from Reddit car enthusiasts, the car appears to be a Ford Falcon XA 500 wagon from the 1970s.

What makes this weird is:

• The XA Falcon was mainly sold in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa

• India had very strict import restrictions before 1991

• It has a Pune registration plate

• It has clearly been abandoned for a VERY long time

Some interesting things:

• I found a 2012 article/photo showing the car already sitting there in almost the same condition

• Some of the original model letters are missing

• Number plate is still intact

• There are multiple other abandoned old vehicles nearby too, including old Premier Padminis and a Jeep

I’m extremely curious how this car even ended up in Pune and why it has been abandoned for so long.

Does anyone know:

• the history of this car

• whether it was ever seen running in Pune

• or any old stories related to it?

Would love to know more.

Just another daily episode of "Who Needs Traffic Laws Anvwav?" Near Nal Stop

Took a little video near Mehendale Garage Chowk (just next to Verandah) and honestly, it perfectly encapsulates

the absolute lawlessness of Pune's daily commute.

At this point, I'm convinced that traffic rules in Pune are treated like terms and conditions on a website--everyone just skips them and presses "agree." The absolute audacity and confidence it takes to drive head-on into oncoming traffic looking at the people who are actually on the correct side like they are the ones making a mistake, is a psychological phenomenon that needs to be studied.

The best part? The cops can be standing right there at the junction, and people will still casually glide past them on the wrong side without breaking a sweat or even blinking. It's not even a "shortcut" anymore it's just the default setting for commuting here.

Stay safe out there all.Keep your eyes on the road, but keep your eyes on the wrong side of the road even more.

😂💀

I have also shared a Reel on Insta if possible please tag Pune Police over there

Moving to Pune for work, need advice on safe + quiet areas around Kalyani Nagar

Hi everyone,

I’ll be moving to Pune soon for my first job and my office is near WeWork Raheja Woods, Kalyani Nagar.

I’m trying to understand what daily life is actually like around this part of the city before I decide where to base myself, and I’d really appreciate input from people who live in Pune.

A few things that matter to me:
• I’m a woman, so personal safety is my biggest factor.
• I’ve seen a few recent discussions here about uncomfortable creepy incidents, thefts, being followed, and bad experiences with police response, so I’m trying to be more thoughtful instead of choosing blindly. (links in comment)
• I’m an extremely extremely light sleeper, so noise levels matter a lot.
• I also plan to study 2 to 3 hours daily after work, so a calmer environment would help.

For people familiar with the area:
• What parts around Kalyani Nagar generally feel safer and more comfortable for women?
• Is Kalyani Nagar itself worth prioritizing, or are nearby areas better for day-to-day living?
• If someone works near Raheja Woods but doesn’t want a long exhausting commute, which localities would you suggest considering?
• What’s the commute experience like from nearby areas, especially in terms of time, traffic, and typical costs?

trying to understand localities before making decisions.

Thank you!

Pune Camp Area: Two Women Allege Being Repeatedly Stared At and Followed by Elderly Men, Say Police Did Not Register Complaint After They Sought Help

Two women in Pune’s Camp area have alleged that they were repeatedly stared at and followed by two elderly men during both morning and evening hours. According to the complaint, the men allegedly followed one of the women while she travelled to and from work. The women also claimed the men continued staring at them inside Bangalore Restaurant and allegedly followed them again after they changed their route while heading home.

The women later confronted the men, who initially denied the allegations but allegedly apologised before leaving the spot. The complainants also said they visited Pune Police’s Pulgate Police Station seeking help, but claimed no assistance or complaint registration was provided at that time. The incident has now raised fresh concerns over women’s safety and public harassment in the area.

Hey marathi speakers do you think i can learn decent marathi through airlearn app??

There are chances i move to pune/bom from delhi for work. i can survive on hindi but every interaction with autowalas, vegetable bhaiya, watchman will feel like im missing the actual conversation happening around me.

Although i have started my course on airlearn for marathi 2 weeks back. basic greetings down, some food words.

questions for marathi speakers:

1/ is the marathi in apps the same as what mumbaikars actually speak

2/ one phrase that immediately makes autowalas not overcharge

mala marathi shikaychay 🙏🏻

Would you visit this kind of bar in Baner? Genuinely asking before we open one.

Planning to open a listening bar in Baner/Balewadi — concept is borrowed from Tokyo and is starting to appear in Mumbai and Bengaluru. Wanted to check if Pune actually wants this before we go all in.

**What it is:**
— Small, 40-seat venue. Warm lighting. No TVs.
— Vinyl records playing on a proper turntable through a real sound system
— Japanese cocktails, Japanese beers, and a proper food menu — starters and mains, Japanese-influenced, concise but complete
— The vibe is: you can actually have a conversation without shouting
— No DJ. No dance floor. No bottle service. Just good music, good drinks, good food.

**What it's NOT:**
— Not a club. Not a lounge with EDM at 100db.
— Not a restaurant where drinks are an afterthought.
— Not another rooftop with fairy lights and a Spotify playlist.

Think: you and 3 friends, low light, Miles Davis or City Pop on vinyl, a Yuzu Negroni in hand, a plate of chicken karaage on the table, and no one screaming over the music.

**Quick questions if you have 30 seconds:**

  1. Does this sound like something you'd actually visit, or is it too niche for Pune?
  2. What would you pay per person for a night like this? (drinks + a proper meal)
  3. Is Baner/Balewadi the right location or would you prefer somewhere else?
  4. What would make you a regular vs a one-time visitor?

Not selling anything. Not a survey link. Just a genuine gut-check from someone about to make a big bet on Pune's nightlife. Brutal honesty appreciated.

*(If this sounds like something you've been waiting for in Pune, drop a comment — genuinely helps us understand demand.)*

Aundh- MacBooks stolen from flat need advice

Hey everyone,

My flat in Aundh was broken into and both my MacBooks (one company-issued and one personal) were stolen.

The incident happened today early morning and I’ve already reported it to the police. FIR is currently in process.

“Find My” is enabled on both devices, but they’re currently offline (likely switched off), so I can only see the last known location.

I’ve also informed my company and they’re taking necessary security steps from their side.

Wanted to check with the community:
- Has anyone faced something similar in Pune?
- Any chance of recovery in such cases?
- Anything else I should do right now to improve chances?

If anyone around Aundh has seen suspicious activity or has any leads, please let me know.

Thanks a lot 🙏
This is the photo of thief caught in cctv

Edit:
One of the redditors flat also got robbed by same guy in Bavdhan. He targeted iphones & macbooks there as well. He is very good at knowing the exact time and place

Pune teens having their privacy exposed

(links given in comments)

Hello.

Imagine an Instagram page where minors and adults get brutally beaten up, harassed, and then get posted as a reel for thousands of people to see.

This is the reality of an Instagram page called "@uncensored_pune".

As you all know, violence is on the rise in Pune. People view it as a status symbol to beat up people in groups; they take so much pride in it that, I, as an individual, hear about fellow students, mutuals being hurt badly.

But that is not the end of it; these people then take videos of such beatings and humiliations and proceed to post them on this particular Instagram page that thousands follow. A complete violation of privacy and mental health.

These are teens; imagine the effect this has on their mental health. These assholes post everything that can ruin a person's reputation, including personal chats, and others take entertainment from this.

It is my humble request for the people of Reddit to report this page to the cybercrime department, and make sure the asshole ruining the lives of many teenagers has the fear of law put into his/her heart.

Edit: this asshole has multiple back up accounts, see what can be done about this

edit 2: more evidence will be posted soon

Fed up with civic sense of colleagues

I work at a prominent Investment Bank and this is what I noticed in the past couple of years.

  1. People take the office coffee mugs on their desk and keep hoarding them and eventually after couple of hours, we don't have any cups to use. I see 2-3 used cups on the desk of people till evening. Some greater souls don't even keep it back at the end of the day. Even in Pantry/breakout area, some lle people drink tea/coffee and leave it there after they are done.

  2. Chairs: We have one chair for one desk with spare chairs in conference rooms/breakout area. But if there are more people, they sit beside their colleage. No issue. But they take the chair of someone who is on the break, instead of taking common chairs from conference room/sitout area. Even if someone take those extra chairs, they don't keep it back in that area at the end of the day.

  3. Lift: We have 3 Parking floors with most rush at ground level. During peak time, when lifts are full, the oversmart people , who need to go up, take the lift which is going down. So now the lifts, which are supposed to stop 3 times on 3 floors, now stops 5 times (both while going up and down) eventually carrying the same no if people. It piles up the crowd and people think they are smart by taking downwards lift. Also as soon as lift arrives, people disregard who arrived before them and just try to go in first as if their time is more important.

  4. Spitting of chewing gum in urinals: disgusting and tells about their upbringing.

  5. Charger. I keep my mobile charger in office on the seat where I generally sit (I come early so always get that seat). People take it with to charge their phones. Fine. But once they are done, they don't even return it back. If I need it, I need to search in all nearby desk where the charger is. I mean if your phone battery is weak, they why not buy a charger for yourself for 500rs and keep with you.

Ok enough ranting. I know nobody would improve until unless you penalize or shame them.
