The YouTuber whose channel got banned taught me what “client relationship” actually means

One of my earliest clients was a guy in his mid-20s making decent money from YouTube.

He started small, then the channel took off. Income grew fast, and so did the usual things that come with it — tax complexity, GST, proper books, planning for the next level. We handled all of that together.

Then one day the channel got blocked. Just like that. Six months of near-zero income.

Most people in my position would have either chased pending fees or quietly stepped back. We didn’t. We told him to focus on getting back on his feet and kept supporting him through the paperwork and compliance without charging anything during those months.

That decision changed the relationship. When he finally bounced back (stronger, smarter, and more careful), the trust was already there. Now he’s setting up new businesses, expanding properly, and every time I see the growth, it honestly feels a little like our growth too.

It’s easy to talk about “client relationships” in theory. Living through a client’s worst six months makes it real.

Anyone else here who’s gone through a sudden income shock (YouTube, freelancing, business) and had to rebuild from scratch? Curious what helped you the most during that phase.
