All patina, no point

I forgot to post this one I found a while back. The only reason I know it's a point is because I'm used to finding this kind of heavily patina'd rhyolite and it's not native to where I find it. There's essentially no flake scars left on it and I have no idea what type it is, though it was found among early and mid archaic points.

I can only imagine what it must have looked like fresh!

A couple of bases and a chunk of chert

I checked out a new spot today near my super productive one from my last few posts and even though it was way too hot and I walked way too far, I found a nice little Kirk base and an interesting little asymmetrical guy, no idea what that one is.

I also found a nice chunk of chert and a flake. If you guys aren't aware, chert is very uncommon in the NC piedmont region, so it's always exciting to find some. If I had a guess, I'd say it's either Knox chert from the mountains or something out of Virginia. I'm not sure if the chunk is worked, but the flake sure looks like it!

When a spot is good, it's good.

I hope you guys aren't sick of me yet...

I went back to the same spot after another long, rainy weekend, and sure enough, I must've missed some stuff last time! I can't imagine how densely populated this stretch must have been in the past millennia, but I doubt if I'll ever be able to top the sheer amount of stuff this site has produced in just 3 visits.

On top of this perfect Kirk corner-notched, I also scored two Guilford stemmed, a Yadkin eared (second from this site), and a nice morrow mountain. Pics in comments, central NC as always 😁

It's a good day when you find a new favorite🔥

I went back to one of my newer spots here in central NC after all the rain we've had; at first I was worried I wasn't going to find anything because all of the dry mud was overgrown with reeds, but one of the bare spots was washed out, and sure enough, I hit the dang jackpot! Suffice it to say, I had quite possibly my best day yet.

I'm not sure of the type, but I'm guessing maccorkle? It has an insane bevel too, pics in comments along with the rest of the day's haul, i.e. the aforementioned Guilfords.

Lem's Fiasco - random question (spoiler)

What is the purpose of the character of Tempe? Is it because he's the only one who can truly understand the alienness of the Quintans due to his nature?

I loved the book, but the first act on Titan felt disconnected from the rest of the story, unless I missed the connective tissue.

Little Kirk/palmer pull from a new spot today

I've been finding a lot of rough points and hard to identify types recently, so it was nice to find a little Kirk/palmer today made out of some fine grained rhyolite. It's a shame it's broken, but it has a cool little impact fracture so I'm hoping it was able to get someone their dinner 10,000ish years ago.

Central NC piedmont as always

A nice archaic mixed bag with a *possible* paleo

I got a nice little haul today at a new spot here in central NC and secured a good mix of archaic and a possible paleo (but I'm trying to be realistic) The incurvate base isn't fluted, it feels ground, but it may just be wear due to age.

My guesses for Top L to R is Guilford Stemmed, a nicely flaked uniface blade, and the mystery point.

Bottom L to R is 2 morrow mountains and a nice little palmer/Kirk with a pretty cool impact fracture.

Thanks for looking and any suggestions on type!

Petition to sticky some posts

I'm not sure if this is inappropriate or not, but can we potentially create some posts about how to search for arrowheads and where to find resources for identification and sticky them to the top of this sub?

I think it would help a lot of new folks. I keep seeing posts about people asking for information on where to find artifacts in their area or help in identifying finds, and I feel like many of us keep suggesting the same things, i.e. searching creeks/fields and projectilepoints.net

Some mystery NC points

I found a couple points recently at some of my spots here in central NC and I'm stumped on the types.

The gray type was found at a primarily archaic spot and the broken type was found at a primarily woodland site. I know it's impossible to judge a broken blade, but the dark blade is thin and seems to have a notch, so I'm wondering if anyone else thinks it may be a yadkin notched?

Anyways, as always thanks for looking and any tips!

Unreal haul today.

I hope y'all aren't sick of me yet, but I just had to share my best haul yet. I rode my bike into a new spot in the 100 degree heat and the points were popping right out of the ground! 10 points (at least). I think the bottom row is debitage, but the first one seems paleo? Also the last one might be a broken triangle.

Here's my typing for everything. Kirk Stemmed or corner-notched, savannah river, morrow mountain (the last 4)

Middle row: 2 Guilfords, 2 Randolphs?

Central NC as always 😁

Found my smallest complete point today

I was heading home from one of my go to spots without anything to show for it, so I decided to hit up a different spot downstream and sure enough, found my smallest point yet! A 20 mm caraway smoker! The arrowhead gods have been kind to me lately 🙏

(Forgive my dirty hand)

Did I find my first bone tools?!

Omg I think I found a lure and an awl and *maybe* something else??! Central NC as always

Updated + new frame

I had stuff starting to pile up, so I decided to take all of my complete points + some of my favorite broken pieces and update my frame to showcase my best stuff.

I also got a new frame that I wanted to make into more of an "education and exposition" frame, so I crammed it with the rest of my broke pieces as well as some tools and different examples of pottery sherds.

I hope you all like them! Let me know if you have any questions 😁

All central NC personal finds.

Another site, another successful day!

Thanks to a tip from a fellow NC Redditor, I checked out a spot today near me here in the central Piedmont region and hit pay dirt! I believe all these are made out of slate too, which is an uncommon stone type for me.

I found my first complete Yadkin eared as well as a few other cool points.

I think the middle guy between the Kirks corner-notched is a Kirk stemmed, but I'm open to other opinions?

Triangle beach round 2

I hit the same spot from yesterday (central NC) but went downstream a bit farther.

I pulled these two big triangles but I'm not sure of ID.

Yadkin? I thought maybe Roanoke triangle and badin crude, but I might be out of range of Roanoke and badin is apparently just a Yadkin preform.

New spot = arrowhead jackpot

I got a tip from a fellow hunter and checked out a new spot today a couple of counties over from me here in central NC.

Anyways, I hit the arrowhead jackpot and found my first full caraway! I think the white caraway is quartzite and the black one I'm not sure about, but it's semi-translucent

Fossil shell found in Holden Beach North Carolina

My GF and I found these guys at Holden Beach in North Carolina and we're trying to figure out what they are. They look somewhat like Exogyra Costata, but the texture seems different.

I also uploaded the frame of the rest of the shells we found if you all want to see them.

Thanks!

Kirk stemmed/serrated?

A buddy and I hit up the field in central NC again today and I snagged this guy. At first I clocked it as a Kirk or palmer corner-notched, but he thinks it might be a Kirk stemmed/serrated due to the flared shoulders and squared stem. It's right at 40 mm, so it's below the average measurements, but maybe it's resharpened?

Thoughts? Thanks!
