Use Divorce as a tool to threaten in marriage

Im a mbbs dr, i was graduated from kemu.15 years old graduate. I got married and moves to south korea since. Since then i was totally devoted and dedicated to family . And was total house wife . He kept me isolated from community here in many ways. I slowly became introvert. He controlled over many little things. And now i wish to study and take a restart to my carrier. And i started study at home, whenever i get free time from house chores . And he said to me if you study or peruse your carrier , i will give you divorce. To how much extent is this fair / justified to say to me like that.

Halting my carrier by husband and this is haunting to me

I would appreciate some advice, especially from people familiar with Islamic marriage and career issues.
I am a married woman with an MBBS degree. I graduated about 15 years ago and am now considering preparing for the USMLE. I understand that my chances of matching into a U.S. residency may be difficult because of the long gap since graduation, but I still want to try.
My concern is this: what if I work very hard, pass the USMLE exams, and eventually receive a residency opportunity, but my husband refuses to support or allow me to pursue it?
From an Islamic perspective, what are a husband’s rights and a wife’s rights in a situation like this? If a wife wishes to pursue a beneficial profession such as medicine, and the husband objects, how should such a conflict be handled? Does it make a difference whether his concerns are practical (family, children, relocation, finances) versus simply not wanting her to advance professionally?
I am looking for sincere Islamic perspectives and personal experiences, not arguments or criticism.
Thank you.
