I am facing an issue where an incorrect first employer/Member ID is linked to my UAN. EPFO currently provides options to mark later employment records as erroneous, but there is no option to delink the first company.
Because of this, my employment history appears incorrect during background verification (BGV), creating problems with job opportunities.
I have raised multiple grievances through EPFiGMS, CPGRAMS, DPG, and emails since January 2025, but the issue is still unresolved.
Has anyone successfully managed to get the first company/Member ID removed from their UAN? Is there any official process, court order, or escalation path that actually works? Or is EPFO planning to provide a delink option in the future?
Any guidance or success stories would be greatly appreciated.
EPFO Employment Overlap: A Growing Problem That No One in Government Seems to Notice
Thousands of employees across India are facing career and Background Verification (BGV) issues because of employment overlap in their EPFO records. Despite repeated grievances and complaints, this issue continues to receive little policy attention.
A common scenario occurs when a PF account is created during onboarding, but the candidate never actually joins the organization. In other cases, an employee works for only a few days or weeks, receives a small contribution, and later discovers that the record is creating overlap issues with another employer.
Many employees find themselves trapped because there is no simple mechanism to correct or delink disputed employment records. While certain correction processes exist, they are often lengthy, dependent on employer cooperation, and can take months or years without a satisfactory resolution.
A major concern is that there is no easy way to delink the first employer from a UAN when the employment record is disputed. Employees are often required to obtain employer approval even when the employer refuses to cooperate, rejects requests, ignores communications, or no longer exists.
EPFO should consider introducing a simplified self-service delink facility for short-duration employments. For example, employment records with service periods of up to 2–6 months, especially where contributions are minimal or where supporting evidence is available, could be reviewed through a simplified process without requiring mandatory employer approval. Such requests could be verified directly by EPFO based on documents submitted by the employee.
This would help address thousands of cases involving:
- Non-joining after onboarding
- Incorrect service history entries
- Very short-term employment disputes
- Minimal or token PF contributions
- Employment overlap affecting BGV
Currently, affected employees are forced to rely on:
- Joint Declarations
- EPFiGMS grievances
- CPGRAMS complaints
- DPG representations
- Repeated emails and follow-ups
Many employees report that these processes are slow, repetitive, and often fail to provide a practical resolution.
The consequences are significant:
- Background verification delays or failures
- Loss of job opportunities
- Professional stress and uncertainty
- Inaccurate employment history records
- Years spent pursuing corrections
Employment records maintained by EPFO have become an important part of modern background verification. Therefore, employees should have access to a fair, transparent, and independent mechanism to challenge incorrect records.
A simplified delink process for short-duration and disputed employments, without mandatory employer approval in every case, would provide relief to thousands of genuine employees while maintaining the integrity of EPFO records.
This is a growing issue that deserves serious attention from EPFO and the Government of India.
I have exhausted all options to fix my overlap/delinking issue. I have already tried EPFiGMS, CPGRAMS, the DPG portal, and sent multiple emails to senior officials and the CEO, but the issue remains unresolved.
Has anyone here successfully resolved a similar overlap/delinking issue after exhausting all these channels? Is there any third way to directly get the matter reviewed and fixed? Any genuine guidance would be appreciated.

I am facing a BGV issue because T#C#S made a mistake and added a 2-month overlap in my employment records. I had already sent an email informing that I would not be joining T#C#S and also paid the recovery amount. The BGV team had asked me to provide written confirmation, which I submitted, but they still added the 2 months in the PF records.
Is there any way to fix overlap if employer and epfo grivence is not helping?
I received an offer from TCS in 2020.
During onboarding, there was an issue related to my previous experience letter. Because of that, I informed the TCS HR team that I would not be able to join, and I also sent an email confirmation.
Later, the BGV team contacted me and asked for written confirmation that I would not be joining. I provided that confirmation as well.
Despite this, TCS still processed my onboarding records, credited one month salary, and later reflected additional period in employment records. They finally marked my exit after around 3 months.
Due to this, my employment history now shows around 40 days overlap with another company, even though I had clearly informed them earlier that I would not be joining.
Based on the exit date they marked, only around ₹1,800 was credited in PF, which also does not seem consistent with the employment duration shown in records.
I also paid the recovery amount requested by them, and they issued a relieving letter. However, the incorrect overlap issue still remains.
I requested them to correct the joining/exit dates, but they rejected my request.
Now, under newer PF/UAN delinking rules, I may have the option to delink this employment record.
What would be the best option now?
Would appreciate advice from anyone who faced a similar situation, especially HR or BGV professionals.
