Management Support and Trust in Data Analytics

Why do some teams actually use their analytics tools while others just ignore them?

I'm currently writing my master's thesis at RWTH Aachen on exactly this topic, and I could really use your help. If you've ever worked with dashboards, BI tools, reports, or analytics platforms, I'd be incredibly grateful if you could take 5 minutes to complete my anonymous survey.

Every response helps me a lot and directly contributes to my research. Thank you!

I've worked across different industries and the difference in how much people actually rely on analytics tools is honestly wild. Sometimes teams have access to the same tools and similar data, yet one team bases decisions on it while another barely opens the dashboard.

My own impression is that it often comes down to trust. I've even had coworkers tell us not to spend time building dashboards because they wouldn't use them anyway.

What do you think makes the difference? Trust in the data? Company culture? Training? Leadership? Tool complexity? Something else?

I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments as well, but if you can spare 5 minutes for the survey, that would help me even more.

Umfrage mit 50 Euro Verlosung: Vertrauen in Data Analytics Systeme

Hallo,

Trust in Analytics Tools

Why do some finance teams actually use analytics tools while others ignore them?

I'm currently writing my master's thesis at RWTH Aachen University on the adoption of analytics tools in the workplace, and I'd really appreciate your help.

If you work in finance, accounting, controlling, FP&A, audit, banking, or a related field, I'd be grateful if you could take 5 minutes to complete my anonymous survey:

Every response helps me tremendously and directly contributes to my research. Thank you!

One thing I've noticed across different companies is how differently teams use analytics tools and dashboards.

Some teams rely heavily on data for decisions, forecasting, budgeting, and performance tracking. Others have access to similar tools and data but barely use them at all.

My impression is that trust plays a huge role. If employees don't trust the numbers or don't see value in the tools, adoption never really happens. I've even seen situations where people said building new dashboards was a waste of time because nobody would use them anyway.

For those working in finance-related roles: What do you think makes the difference? Management support? Training? Data quality? Company culture? Tool complexity?

I'd love to hear your experiences in the comments, and if you can spare 5 minutes for the survey, it would help me out a lot.

Trust in Data Analytics

Why do some teams actually use their analytics tools while others just ignore them?

I've been working across different industries for a while now and the difference in how much people actually rely on their analytics tools is honestly wild. Same tools, sometimes even better data. But one team makes decisions with it and the other refuses to use it from the start.

My take after seeing this pattern repeatedly: it almost always comes down to whether employees genuinely trust the output. Got to the point where some coworkers flat out told us to not invest anytime in building dashboards, as they are not going to use them anyways. Then what's even the point of having an analytics department?

Curious what experiences others have had with this. Is it working culture? Tool complexity? Personal attitude? Age? I've seen all of it play a role honestly.

I do believe that how supervisors engage with these tools — and proper training — can make a huge difference in whether people actually trust and use them. Currently writing my master's thesis on this at RWTH Aachen and would love to hear your thoughts on this, on my short anonymous survey. Takes 5 minutes and is completly anonymous.
